Recently while reading an interesting book by an author called Robert Green, i came across a Chinese proverb that changed my mindset about people.
The Chinese proverb emphasizes that we should always beat the grass to startle the snakes.
This proverb literally means that we should figure out the intentions of our enemies before they can do something harmful to us.
In the Bible, the story of David is told where he was able to figure out the bad intentions of Saul who wanted him dead.
Through his best friend, Jonathan who was the son of King Saul.
David confided in Jonathan that King Saul wanted him dead and his best friend did not believe him.
One day, a feast was organized at the palace and David was supposed to be at the feast and he decided not to attend it intentionally.
He made Jonathan to attend the feast alone.
When Saul asked why David was not around, an excuse from David was given by Jonathan.
And the reaction of Saul revealed exactly what he was planning to do to Jonathan's friend.
His reaction was filled with lots of anger, he ordered David to appear in his presence while shouting out loud that he deserves to die.
At this point, Jonathan confirmed the suspicions of David.
Carrying out a test will help you figure out the intentions of people who want to harm you.
Any strong emotion in form of anger or hatred will reveal that there is something boiling under the surface.
If it was indeed a friend who had asked about David, he would just let all that pass and at worst he would believe that it was an act of selfishness.
In our quest to get to know the bad intentions of the people around, it is often a very difficult task since people will not reveal their thoughts, emotions and plans.
Their critical characters will remain hidden, their obsessions, weaknesses and plans therefore we are left in the darkness of the unknown.
And we are unable to predict their next moves.
But there is away to help us extract the most important information from them without them actually having any suspicions.
In order to do this, we must be able to develop our ability to suppress ourselves during a conversation and allow the other person to talk about themselves.
In the process of expressing themselves, they might end up revealing their deepest secrets, intentions and also their next moves.
When an enemy launches an attack on you, it is important that you first and foremost isolate yourself from his presence and then think deeply before you can take any action.
Truth betold, one action that you take can lead to other unintended consequences and also more unnecessary drama.
This is because more and more people will be drawn into the chain of drama.
In simple terms, action A can lead to B, and action B leads to action C and others.
First analyze the consequences of the actions that you are going to take, you will be glad that you did.
The best strategy that we can adopt while fighting our enemies is to assume formlessness.
We should act like water that is able to take up any shape and it is therefore shapeless.
This is the highest form of power and strategy, take the assumption that there are no laws, you have to be in the moment and observe the situation that you are in.
Learning to adapt to events as you see them with your own eyes and ignoring the advice that people give you.
Finally, thinking for yourself. Accept the fact that nothing is certain, no law or strategy is fixed.
The best way to protect yourself is to be as fluid and formless as water, never bet on stability and lasting order.
