The wealth in Uganda is increasing day in and day out and there are some very rich people in Uganda who come from some specific tribes in Uganda.

Today, called the Pearl of Africa by Winston Churchill which we today call Uganda. Here are the richest tribes in Uganda.

1. Banyankole

This group of Ugandans come from the western region of Uganda and currently, they are the people who are ruling the Ugandan government and so it is not a surprise that they are the richest people in Uganda.

Under the leadership President Yoweri Museveni, these people have amassed large amounts of wealth and continue to amass more wealth as they continue to remain in power almost for life.

2. Bakiga

These people also come from the western part of Uganda and particularly from Kabale district and so they are not very different from the Banyankole and they have also managed to amass large amounts of wealth in Uganda and they also control the Ugandan economy.

They have very prominent people in the Ugandan government who control the affairs of the other Ugandans.

3. Baganda

The baganda people are found in the central region of Uganda and they are the largest ethnic group of people in Uganda and they hold the third position in the richest tribal group in Uganda.

These people are well organised and their king who is currently  Kabaka Ronald Mwenda Mutebi owns the largest amount of land in Uganda and some of his subjects have also amassed  large amounts of money and wealth from the different resources that are owned by the Kingdom.

These people have very many prominent people in Uganda and they continue to dominate the Ugandan economy and enjoy the benefits of being the largest number of people in Uganda.

4. Batooro

The Batooro are the fourth richest tribes in Uganda and under the leadership of their King Oyo, they have had some good economic stability as they enjoyed the fruits of good governance.

Their king owns large plots of land in the Kingdom and they are doing very well financially and economically.

They also have very many prominent people in the Ugandan government and some Ministerial positions that are key in the government are being held by some of their prominent Members of Parliament and so they are doing very well wealth wise.

5. Banyoro

The people of Bunyoro are found in the western region of Uganda in districts like Masindi, Hoima and others and they are under the rule of the King Iguru Gafabusa and this king owns large plots of land and also his subjects have had good benefits from the different resources that they obtain from the kingdom.

These people have very many people in the government working for Uganda and also some prominent ministerial posts have been dedicated to them and so they are enjoying the privileges of this government.

These people are doing well in the Ugandan government and very many of their people are moving out of the poverty and getting into the wealthy status.

6. Bateso

These people are not also doing very bad in terms of wealth and they have very many people who are working within the Ugandan government and they are enjoying the privileges of working for the government and so they are getting some large amounts of money and investing in liftingthemselves out of poverty.

Some of their people are ministers in this government  and have managed to enrich themselves with the  government resources to help get themselves out of poverty.

7. Acholi

These people come from the northern region of Uganda and reside in districts like Gulu, Pader, Zombo and others.

Having ruled this country for some time through the hands of former Ugandan president Dr. Appollo Milton Obote, they are not doing very badly despite the fact that they suffered from the wars between the Lord’s Resistance Army which was  led by Kony the rebel leader and the Ugandan government.

Today, there are very many economic activities that are taking place in the Acholi region and there are very people from this region who are doing great things economically and enjoying life.

Some of their Members of Parliament have managed to land very good ministerial posts and also enrich themselves from the resources of the government.

8. Basoga

These people are found in the central region of Uganda and they are doing very well to some extent given the fact that some of the prominent people in the Ugandan government have come from this region.

People like the current speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga comes from Busoga region and she is one of the prominent people from  Busoga region who has spear headed the need to help her people get out of poverty. They also have other prominent people who have been given ministerial posts.

9. Alur

These people come from the West Nile region of Uganda and they are found in districts like Nebbi district, and even Zombo district.

These people have been improving the economic status in the recent years and have been becoming richer since the time when the NRM government came into power.

They also have some prominent people working in this government and they have been able to get some resources that have allowed them to enrich themselves.

10. Aringa

These are found in the West Nile region of Uganda and they are dominating the districts of Yumbe, Arua and others.

They have had some prominent people who have joined the Ugandan government and earned some large amounts of money. These people may not be doing very well but they have improved their standards of living after the war that brought the NRM party into power.

  1. Dr milton Obote ay his soul rest in peace was a langi from Apac district in lango sub region. During his tenure he loved and benefited so much the people of Bushenyi henceforth suporting them so much as compaired to his people, very very rich people in bushenyi didnot derive their riches from the current government but from the former government through had work and the stability they enjoyed to enable them work harder. They are further using the current stability to further their riches, those who have better n quality jobs in this current govt have further added on the District's GDP by bringing services nearer to their people.
    Come to Bushenyi and visit

    2. Your description of the location of Acholic land. It doesn't include Nebbi&zombie, neither does Milton Obote belong to the Acholic subgroup. Perhaps the more accurate would be the Luo of northern Uganda.

  6. Thanks for your comment but the truth of the matter is that iam not biased, yes there are some Banyarwanda who are very rich but i just took out tribes that have very many rich people according to the list. You can also say i considered some Banyankole and Bakiga to also be part of the Banyarwanda as aresult of the intermarriages that have taken place over time.

  28. Obviously the Mercy never studied statistical methods. In her presentation, there are no figures, no graphs, no variance, deviation, etc. The source of her information us not clear. I guess it's her simple perception of the surface, but not the underlying. Sorry, cheap analysis!!!

    1. All the details you are talking about are just academic, iam a scientist, we believe there are ideal situations and also what is on the ground, my friend.

  29. I support you Mercy.
Coming up with this comprehensive report may not have been so easy.
But you in this case you focused much on the number of working class. And left out the prominent economic activities each tribe is doing for a living. To me I consider the bateso tribe to be second in the group.

I think westerners knows what they want bse they change with change they worked with obote but after obote immidiatly they changed to current government and u wait after this regime the coming one weather it comes fm north or east south or west it will be full of westerners . For ex how many ministers came fm western during obote regime? In short those people born with knowledge but not only knowledge fm school

  36. Banyankole and bakiga are hard working. They are also located in areas with rich soil and favorite climate. They almost feed the whole country with milk, bananas, maize,Irish potatoes. Even a change in government can't affect them as longer as there is peace. Hard work pays

  37. Why isn't any one talking about Iddi Amin's people

    ReplyDelete
  38. You shouldn't be publishing such information, I come from the west and I so what situation is there. Otherwise some people may think they are rich forgetting Uganda is a very poor country . Let the thinking change towards the Uganda and East Africa being rich ,it will make sense . Let's not say" a given people are rich and are poor yet the whole population is in stinking poverty "
