I have been wondering for some good period of time whether politics and religion can actually be friends literally meaning that the two fields that have several followers are related in some way or the other.
One interesting thing that I have found about religion that also does exist in politics is that both have strong figures that stand out.
For example when we look at religion and analyse each of the popular religions that most people subscribe to.
It is very clear that each of these religions be it Christianity, Islam or Buddhism, all do have strong figures that act as the pillars of these respective religious sects.
For the case of Christianity, Jesus Christ stands out as the pillar and anyone who claims to be a Christian but doesnot believe in Jesus is actually a liar.
Now for Islam, prophet Muhammad stands tall and without him Islam cannot exist.
This principle also applies to other religions like Buddhism,Hindu and others.
Now when we come back to politics, there are also some strong figures that stand out strong.
We cannot forget what we learnt in European history about leaders like Napoleon Bonaparte who ruled France and also Adolf Hitler who organized strong armies that helped bring their ambitions to life.
Another interesting relationship between religion and politics is that both have laws or rules that people who identify with them should live by.
In Christianity, common laws that we call the ten commandments are what each and every Christian must live by.
Some of these laws called commandments are do not steal, do not commit adultery, do not kill and so on.
Just like in Islam where members have to pray five times a day or perform hijja and women should wear hijabs.
Although both politics and religion have laws that it's members have to obey, in most cases the politicians play hide and seek with the laws.
They bribe voters and even rig elections when these elections are supposed to be free and fair so that citizens can choose the right and capable leaders.
However for the case of religion, the laws are one way streets.
There is no questioning a law. When law says do not commit adultery, don't do it.
There is no way out unless you want to get out of that religion.
If you commit adultery, you are against the law and if you want to continue with it the only option is to abandon the religion and become an atheist.
Another thought provoking similarity between the two fields is that there is always a reward at the end of each struggle, this applies to both religion and politics.
In politics, the ultimate goal of all politicians and their political parties is to gain power and control.
At least that is the mission of any political party that resides on the opposite side.
After gaining power,the political party is now in control of the country and it's resources that is what strong leaders like Napoleon and Hitler did during their time.
They fought to gain power and indeed they did get what they desired.
Now, on the other side of religion, there is also said to be a reward.
For Christians, followers of Jesus Christ believe that they will end up in heaven after completing the desired work of God on earth.
And for Muslims, the reward is said to be Janah and also the seven virgins.
Finally both start small, Jesus Christ started Christianity with 12 people whom he chose to work with to spread his gospel and now there are millions of people who are christians around the world.
For politics, all these great leaders also start small not until they build influence among people and their ideology expands and spreads like wild fire.
Now, I guess I can say politics and religion are bed fellows.
