HOW TO BUILD STRONG CHARACTER THROUGH CHALLENGES

 By Matata Mercy

Have you ever gone through situations where you feel like giving up on life? I know you have.

And if you have not,may be you have not lived in this world.

But if you have been in this world for a while, you know that sometimes things get tough.

When life gets tough, the people who are tough will most likely survive and those who are weak will just fade away by giving up.

One fundamental question that I would love to ask is what makes the tough people survive?

What makes tough people heroes? What makes them heroes is what  i can loosely call character.

These people have trained themselves so that they are able to win when faced with difficult situations.

These are our heroes, in the form of successful entrepreneurs, inventors, and others out there who have learnt to last in their relationships or marriage.

In order to be a hero, you need to learn to say no whenever possible.

If somebody is asking you to do something that is against your belief or what you feel is  not right.

And you should also be willing to do the things that you feel are okay to be done and will not only benefit you but also others.

For example if someone is asking you to take bribe at your workplace, you should reject it openly by saying no.

And you should be willing to say yes to learning new skills that will help build your career even when the people around you tell you that you are too old for that.

Better to make  mistakes while learning something new or doing something that you have always wanted to do than to regret some years later why you did not do that.

How do our heroes build strong character?

Our heroes build strong character by first and foremost, recognising the things that they desire and  also the challenges that they will face while trying to accomplish these things.

For example if your office is on the last floor up in the skyscraper and you have always wanted to get to your office as quickly as possible but you fear using the elevator.

You instead always use the stairs. The thought of entering the elevator scares the hell out of you.

It is like a death trap when the elevator doors are shut with you inside it.

So how so you overcome this challenge and start using the elevator so that you can get to your office as quickly as possible?

One simple technique I suggest that you can use is to expose yourself to the fear of the elevator bit by bit. What do I mean by this?

By this I mean take action slowly towards beating this fear.

On the first day of tackling this fear, you  can decide to stand just 3metres away  from the elevator.

On the second day, you come closer just 1 metre away from the elevator.

On the last day, you jump into the elevator, the death trap you have feared all  this while and as you emerge the otherwise up into your office, you will be releaved of this fear.

This applies to all the problems that we may encounter in our daily lives.

It could be a relationship, building a new career or even talking to your boss about a salary increment but you are afraid to start the conversation.

The positive actions that you take will help build a strong character that will go along the way to live a fulfilled life.

So, whatever happens  in life please build a strong character.

Use challenges as opportunities. You will be glad you did. Good luck.
