NEVER FAIL TO TRY

 By Matata Mercy.

Recently a friend of mine asked me a question that perplexed me.

He asked me, 'What is the secret to success?'. I scratched my head as i looked for the answer.

I truely did not have any answer and he sensed  it and whispered, trying things out.

Yes, i realised that he was right and i wondered why i was scratching my head too much.

All  the successful people i know have tried out something and then became successful at it.

All the popular music artists, successful entrepreneurs  have tried out something, others failed terribly before becoming successful.

The best advice i can give anyone out there is to try things out.

The only way you are going  to know if you can succeed is by trying.

So if trying is important for all of us, then why do so many people fail to try?

Here are a few reasons why  many people fail to try.

1.Fear of failing

The number one reason why most people do not try is because they fear to fail.

These people would rather not try than failing and then getting embarrassed.

The fear of an unknown outcomes will keep many people away from trying.

It could also be the fear of success.

In Africa, we do have a crazy culture of pulling successful people down. Some people do not want others to progress more than them.

As a result of this, most people do not try because they do not want to appear to be successful.

The memories of past failures and the pain that came with them can become setbacks to trying.

Previous expectations that were unmet have stopped people from trying.

Why try when we had our hopes up in the past, only to be lost?

2.The influence of other people

When we are constantly told to 'give it ago ', this will have a positive impact on us and we will be able to try new things often.

On the other hand when we are constantly told the opposite we lose motivation and fail to try.

A friend of mine confessed to me that she was always being told that she would amount to nothing by her parents.

While you would expect this statement to motivate a person to work hard and prove the critics wrong, it instead crippled her motivation and she gave up on many areas of her life.

3. Social culture.

Some years back, i had a conversation with an old woman who told me she felt like her world was shrinking.

People were telling her that she was too old to try out new things. How she responded was remarkable.

She decided to do what is called a 52weeks  challenge.

This simply means that she would try new things each and every week for the next 52weeks.

During that  time she tried new stuff ,She went shopping for new fashionstyle, she decided to to go on dates, she got a new job and also made new friends.

There was massive transformation in her life just after a few months. What are you going to try?

May be the hardest part of life is just having the courage to try.
