HOW TO STOP WORRYING

 By Matata Mercy

Recently a friend of mine confessed to me that he was terribly worried and it is  like his world was crushing right infront of his eyes.

His thoughts were revolving around his future, his relationship, and many other issues bothering his mind.

This chronic worry was affecting his mental and physical state.

The big question before us is, why do people worry too much?

The answer is that people worry because they believe that something bad will  happen to them or could happen.

These people put up  a hypervigilant strategy where they think that if they worry about a certain problem, bad things will not happen to them.

So now that we know  what causes people to worry, we should figure out how to fight chronic.

Here are some tips that can help you to fight chronic worry.

1.Make a list of your worries and analyse it.

What things are giving you sleepless nights, what are you worried about?

Write these worries down after you have identified them. This is the first step to dealing with your worries.

Then you can start doing an analysis on each worry that you have written down.

Find out whether what you are worried about is real or just an illusion.

There are two types of worries, productive worries and unproductive worries.

Productive worries are things that you can control while unproductive worries are things that you cannot control.

An example of productive worries is if you are planning to travel to Australia, it is okay to worry about your flight and the hotel where you will be staying.

2. Be comfortable with uncertainty.

If you are going to stop chronic worry, then you have to get comfortable with uncertainty.

You will need to accept certain realities in  your Iife like your limitations.

When you accept uncertainty, you do not need to worry any more.

Acceptance simply means you know that uncertainty exists and just letting it go and instead focusing on the things you can control.

3.Make yourself uncomfortable

The people who worry too much do not like discomfort and cannot tolerate it.

Truth be told, if you are going to make any progress in this world you will need to accept discomfort.

If you accept discomfort, you will accomplish alot more.

The goal is to be able to do what you do not want to do or to do the things that make you uncomfortable.

The people who worry avoid discomfort but  if they keep forcing themselves into uncomfortable situations, they will rely less on worry as a coping strategy.

4. Make yourself boring with fear

One thing is that when you  face your fears frequently you will get used to them and you will not worry about them any more.

For example, when you always say you will die of cancer.

The fear of cancer will  disappear from you and you will nolonger worry about cancer.

5.Just stop the clock

People who are always worried have a sense of urgency.

They want to have solutions for their problems quickly.

They believe that if they do not get what they want, something bad will happen to them.

Instead of thinking about the sense of urgency, think about what can make your life feel better right now.

You can read books, listen to music and do other things to stop the clock. This will help curtail your anxiety.

6.Share your thoughts about your worries

Using talk therapy can help you to recover from chronic worry, you will be able to find the root cause of the problem.

When you dig deep and understand the cause of your anxiety,it will go away. Good luck.
