Onika Tanya Maraj who is popularly known as NickiMinaj is a rapper, singer and also a songwriter who was born on the 8th of December in the year 1982 in a place called Saint James which is found in Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago and she grew up in the Queens which is found in New York city.
Her father who is called Robert Maraj is a financial executive who is also a gospel artist as a part-timer. Nickiminaj's mother is also a gospel artist who is mainly featuring Afro Trinidadian music.
Nickiminaj faced a very terrible childhood as her father was very abusive towards her since he was strongly addicted to alcohol and also made use of drugs.
In addition to all this he had a very violent temper which one day led to him burning the family home in the year 1987 back in the month of December. Nickiminaj and family immigrated along side her mother to the Queens when Minaj was aged just five years old.
Nickiminaj attended and successfully graduated from Laguardia Highschool of Music, Art and Performing Arts which is purely focused on visual and also the performing arts.
After successfully graduating from the school, Nickiminaj wanted to actually become an actress and was even cast in a play by Off-broadway which is called In case you forget back in the year 2001.
Nickiminaj struggled with her acting career while she was aged 19 and also during that time, she worked as a waitress at a place called Red Lobster which is found in the Bronx.
She was later fired from the job for being very rude to the customers and according to Nickiminaj, she has been fired from over 15 jobs for the same reason given above.
In the year 2004, Nickiminaj was able to sign to a music group called Full force which is found Brookyln and while there, she was able to rap in a quartet which was called the Hood stars.
Nickiminaj later decided to leave the music group and then she uploaded her songs onto her Myspace profile and the songs were shared by several people in the music industry.
During that time Nickiminaj was being managed by Debra Anteny. Nickiminaj later released a mixed tape which was her first called playtime is over on the 5th of July in the year 2007 and her second mixed tape was called sucka free.
In the year 2009, Nickiminaj was discovered by rapper Lil Wayne who later signed a recording contract with Young Money Entertainment. Nickiminaj has become one of the most respected female music artist especially among rappers of all time.
She is truly an inspiration to all the young girls out there who would like to join the music industry.
