BIOGRAPHY: INSPIRING STORY OF COLONEL SANDERS, FOUNDER OF KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN (KFC) RESTAURANT CHAIN


Colonel Harland Sanders who is popularly known as Colonel Sanders was an American entrepreneur and chef who was popularly known for being the man behind the Kentucky Fried Chicken recipe that has been sold throughout different restaurant chains around the world.

 His unique chicken recipe world's first fast-food chicken chain to be sold to food lovers. Colonel Sanders was born on the 9th of September in the year 1890 in a place called Henryville which is found in Indiana. His father died when he was still young just aged six years old.

 Sanders now had to take up the responsibility of taking care of his siblings and providing food for them.

He had a brother and a sister whom he was to take care of after the death of his father.  At that young and tender age, Sanders took up different jobs to make ends meet and some of these  jobs are railroad fireman, street car conductor and he also worked as an insurance salesman.

While aged 40, Sanders was working at a service station which also provided food to travellers in Kentucky.

Sanders later decided to open up a restaurant  across the street and in the menu he included a fried chicken that was so tasty and loved by the travellers that he was given the tittle  Kentucky Colonel by the then governor of Kentucky called Ruby Laffoon in the year 1935.

 Later in the year 1952,  Sanders decided to franchise his fried chicken business and he first sold his franchise to a man called Pete Harman who was at the time running a restaurant at Salt Lake city where there was an allure of the southern regin speciality.

In the year 1955, after his traffic at the restaurant was reduced by a new interstate in North carolina, he decided to sell of that location.

 Sanders decided to travel across the country while cooking his fried chicken from one restaurant to another, along the way signing deals that were paying handsomely for each and every chicken that was sold in the restaurants.

 By the year 1964, KFC had 600 franchised outlets and Sanders then sold his stake in the company for $2 million to investors who were interested in the business.

 In 1966, KFC went public and was later listed on the New York Stock Exchange in the year 1969. In 1971, a company called Hableun Inc. acquired  KFC corporation for a staggering amount of $285 million.

 In the month of october in the year 1986 RJR Nabisco inc.which is a company that owned Hableun Inc, was acquired by  Pepsico Inc. for about  $840 million and this made KFC corporation to become a subsidiary of the company.

After the sale of KFC corporation, Sanders became an ambassador for the  KFC brand and he continued to visit the restaurants as an ambassador and spokesman for the restaurants. 

Sanders died on the 16th of December in the year 1980 while he was aged 90  in Louiseville in Kentucky.

 Colonel Sanders is an inspiration to all the youths out there who are planning to join the world of entrepreneurship and his story shows that you should never give up on life however old you are.
