No one tells us that there is what is called unemployment that exists in our society.

The mentality that you should go to school and study hard so that you can be able to get high paying jobs has brainwashed very many graduates who are coming out of Universities and higher institutions of learning dreaming about unrealistic things in the real world.

Many young people have ended up in depression and others have comitted suicide simply because what they were expecting didnot materialise as the society preaches.

Today getting a job has also in itself become a job itself. Imagine waking up each and everyday looking for a job, it's not easy in this day and age where very many people have gone to school and were able to see the blackboards.

Today i will  give you some tips on what you should do given the fact that your job search is getting you nowhere.

Here are some things that you should do when your job search is taking you nowhere.

1. Volunteer in an organisation or company

When you are out there in need of a job and cannot seem to get anywhere, one thing you can do is to offer your services and time for free. You can apply for voluntary work in an organisation or company.

There are very many organisations and companies that are willing to recruit graduates and young people who are willing to work for free.

You could join clubs like Rotary club or Non-governmental Organisations where you can work for free.

While there you can be able to acquire new skills and also build new networks that can help in the future while you continue with your job search.

This is an opportunity that can open doors for you to get jobs and also most importantly build new skills.

2. Apply for Internships

When you are out of school, it can be so hard to get a job when you do not have the required skills by the employers.

One way you can get out of that boat of lack of skills is to take up internship programmes that are available.

You can join a company where you can do internships and get skills in your field other than the theories that you learnt in College. These practical skills will help you alot during interviews.

For example if you are a graduate of Mechanical Engineering, it will be good if you took up an internship in a garage where you will be able to get hands on skills like changing the car tyre, changing the oil and learn more about  fixing car problems.

When you have these skills, it will make your job search easier.

3. Learn new skills

It is true that your job search is not working, therefore one thing you can do is to endeavour to acquire new skills that can help you to easily be employed.

You could learn how to play an instrument like a guitar or even a keyboard or saxophone during this time when you are unemployed and if you can perfect these skills, you can even start performing for people at a fee.

Or better still you can join a band and  show them your skills at playing that instrument. Before you know it, you will be making some money hopefully as you wait for the job that you studied for.

4. Turn to your hobbies

Everyone else out there has a hobby that they enjoy pursuing and if you find out that you actually are unemployed and getting a job is proving to be hard, take up some of the hobbies that you love doing.

For my case, after failing to get a job i took up writing which is one of the things that iam passionate about and i decided to start up my own blog where i do inspire people and give hope to them.

Practicing your hobbies will keep you busy during that time when you are jobless and with time, you just never know you could make money off it or even turn it into a full time career.

5. Start your own business

When you discover that your job search is taking you no where, it is time to take your future into your own hands and run away with it.

Starting a business can be a great choice when you find out that you have spend along time looking for that job and it is not showing up.

You should however not have unrealistic expectations of how your business will perform given the fact that you are just starting out.

You should be willing to be patient enough as your business grows and develop good financial management skills.

Most importantly, you should be willing to start small. Many youths out there want to start big which is a wrong way of thinking.

Great companies start small, Google started in the garage, Facebook started in the dorm room, Amazon started in the garage, Apple started in the garage and many other great companies. As the years go on your business will grow.

Getting a job can be hard but it is not the end of the world, with the right mindset you can create a  great future for yourself.
