BIOGRAPHY: INSPIRING STORY OF EMMANUEL OKWII


 Emmanuel Arnold Okwii  who is popularly known as Emma Okwii is a Ugandan footballer who professionally plays his football for the Tanzanian football club which is called Simba as a forward or striker and has also played for the Ugandan national team on several occassions.

 Emmanuel Okwii was born in Kampala which is the capital city of Uganda found in the central region of the country on the 25th of December in the year 1992.

He grew up in  a Roman Catholic family but when he was still young, his mother decided to change her religion and become a Born Again Christian  and his mother groomed her children in her faith.

When he was still young, Emmanuel Okwii has been a strong fan of Arsenal Football Club and his has admired Thiery Henry since childhood considering the Arsenal legend as his idol.

Emmanuel Okwii attended St. Henry's Kitovu for his secondary school education and while there he played football for the school in different schools competitions among these were Cocacola Secondary Schools tournament and also the Airtel Rising Stars tournament.

 Okwii started playing professional football when he was signed up by Sports Club Villa (SC Villa) and after his stint at the Ugandan club, he was transfered to the Tanzanian club which is called Simba Sports Club for about $40,000.

In 2013, in the month of January,  Emmanuel Okwii was signed up by a Tunisian team which is called Etoile du Sahel at a record transfer fee in Tanzania which was $300,000 but unfortunately the team failed to pay the fee to Simba S.C although he was later cleared by the FIFA Player's status committee when the deal went sour and he later ended up playing his football for the Young Africans (YANGA FC). Okwii later returned to Simba S.C after Young Africans decided to terminate his contract after they failed to pay $50,000 that they owed to him. 

This was after Okwii refused to play for Young Africans and missed five games.  The contract that he signed with Simba S.C at the time was about six months.

In 2015, in the month of July,  a football club from  Denmark which is called Sonderjyske signed Emmanuel Okwii with the consent of his former club Simba S.C on a five year contract and this contract will last until 2020.

 Emmanuel Okwii started playing international football for the national team in 2009 when he was called up to the squad that played in the  CECAFA cup.

 In 2010, he became the second top scorer at the 2010 CECAFA cup  where he was able to score four goals in the five games that were played.

In 2011, Emmanuel Okwii scored five goals at the 2011 CECAFA cup where he shared the spot of top scorer with other Rwandan players Meddie Kagere and also the captain of the Rwandan team at the time called  Olivier Karekezi.

 Emmanuel Okwii appeared also in the 23 man Squad that played at the 2019 African Cup of Nations where he scored two goals and they were able to beat Democratic Republic of Congo by 2-0   and managed to qualify for the last 16  and were ejected by Senegal.

Emmanuel Okwii is an inspiration to all youths out there and also the youngsters who are planning to build a career in sports most especially in the game of football.
