Lawrence Page who is popularly known as Larry Page is an American internet entrepreneur and computer scientist who alongside his friend and co-founder Sergy Brin created the most popular search engine in the world called Google back in the year 1998.
Larry Page was born in the state of Michigan in the year 1973 in a place called East Lansing. His father who is called Carl Page was one of the pioneers of the field of computer science and artificial intelligence while his mother taught computer programming to University students.
Larry Page attended the University of Michigan where he obtained a Bachelor of science degree in Engineering.
After completing his Engineering degree, Larry Page joined Stanford University where he met with Sergy Brin.
How Google Began
While at Stanford University, Larry Page and Sergy Brin started working on a research project that involved the creation of a search engine that was able to list results according to the popularity of the pages, they both believed that the most popular result would most likely be the most useful.
They decided to call the search engine 'Google' and it was named after the mathematical term called Googol which refers to the number 1 followed by 100 zeros.
This reflected their mission to organise the vast amount of information available on the web. Larry Page and Sergy Brin were able to raise $1million from their family and friends that they invested in Google and in 1998, the launched the company.
Google has now over the years become the most popular search engine in the world and it has been receiving 5.9 billion searches per day as of the year 2013.
In August 2004, Google held it's initial public offering commonly known as IPO making Larry Page and Sergy Brin billionaires. Google's headquarters are found Silicon valley in Carlifornia.
Becoming a Conglomerate
In the year 2006, Google bought the most popular video sharing website called Youtube, where users would submit in the videos that would later be streamed for 1.65 billion in stocks.
In 2013, in the month of September, Larry Page was ranked as no. 13 on the Forbes list of the richest people in America.
Larry Page worked as the CEO of Google where he shared some of the responsibilities with Sergy Brin who worked as the director of special projects.
While Eric Schmidt worked as the Executive chairman of Google.
In 2015, in the month of August, Larry Page and Sergy Brin announced the creation of a new company called Alphabet which would now become the parent company of Google and it's other subsidiaries like Wymo, which is responsible for manufacturing self-driving cars.
