Today, the biggest party in Uganda seems to be the National Resistance Movement party which is famously known for it's yellow colour and it's cultic leader called Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
But with the turn of things into the future, things might not be the same in the NRM party as the years move on.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been the undisputed leader of the NRM party since the time when he came out of the bush with his comrades back in 1986.
Recently the ruling party members went for a retreat as usual in the western part of Uganda at a place called Kyankwanzi where they declared the sole candidature of their leader Yoweri Kaguta Museveni unchallenged.
No one even dared to raise a finger against the man who brought these people into power. According to some of the officials, the decision was made by people in the National Executive Committee (NEC) and also SEC.
This is a party which is preaching democracy and we do wonder which kind of democracy does exist among these party members?
Is NRM party really a democratic party? Is it a perty that does stand for the rules of democracy in Uganda? That will be left for every Ugandan especially those within the party to answer.
It seems that the only thing that the NRM government and party is clinging on is the life of president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who has now become the alpha and the omega of this mighty party.
In 2016, Hon. Amama Mbabazi tried to go head to head with Gen. Yoweri Museveni but he could not manage to even break into his own ranks since there was no room for him to exist in the party.
Hon. Amama Mbabazi formed an outfit that he called Go Foward movement which he used as his outfit to contest against Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
At the time Amama Mbabazi was the Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement while Yoweri Museveni was the party Chairman.
He was eventually kicked out of the NRM party technically and put under house arrest.
That is how democratic the National Resistance Movement actually is. Most of these people within the NRM party have become yes people and they only perform the duties that have been assigned to them by the current president and they do not have any moral authority to question anything that the president asks them to do.
During the controversial removal of the ageimit, these NRM Members of parliament ganged up against Ugandans and ripped apart the constitution without making any thoughts about the implications of what they were actually doing to the Ugandans and their quest for democracy.
It even went to an extent where the Ugandan army had to be deployed all around the parliamentary buildings and special forces from the presidential guard brigade had to be allowed into the parliamentary chambers to beat up the Members of parliament.
After Museveni, what next? This is the question that most people who are currently in the NRM government shoudl be asking before their party fizzles out completely.
I do have a feeling that President Yoweri Museveni will go away with his party since he looks to be irreplacable in the eyes of his loyalists.
After Museveni, What Next for NRM members and loyalists? We wait to see as the mystery unfolds.
