WHY ARE NRM GENERALS ARROGANT AND CONSTANTLY BREEDING IMPUNITY IN UGANDA?

By Matata Mercy

When the National Resistance Movement which is popularly known as NRM came into power in the month of January in 1986, they promised heaven on earth to Ugandans.

They said that the army would be the friend of the Ugandan citizens and they would ensure that the army would protect and take care of the Ugandan citizens far much better than what the earlier regimes did to them.

In the earlier regimes of the likes of Obote and the so called dictator Idi Amin, several Ugandans lost their lives and properties to the soldiers who committed atrocities and looted properties.

With the current events that are taking place around the country. one could fear that the one group that stood out for the people could be going back to the old days.

The actions of Gen. Kyaligonza that occured in Mukono where he used his bodyguards to assault a traffic police officer on duty is a clear sign that the days of tyranny are not yet over.

We thought with the arrival of the NRM into power, Ugandans were now safe and ready to focus on prosperity of the country but it seems we should be focusing far much more on our security than how we will take care of our families.

Before  Kyaligonza, there was an incident of another retired General called Gen. Kasirye Gwanga who allegedly shot tyres of a Ugandan female music artist called Catherine Kusasira before speeding off.

The matter went unanswered as the General continues to enjoy life scotch free in the pearl of Africa.  Just a few weeks after that incident that occured in Makindye, another General wakes up to do the same.

This assaulting a female traffic officer on duty.  Is this country going to the dogs or are some animals more equal than others as George Owrell said in his best seller book called Animal Farm.

The sad thing about this inicident is that the Ugandan police only arrested the body guards but left the big man called Gen. Kyaligonza who is allegedly the Ugandan Ambassador to Burundi moving freely and enjoying life.

If he can slap a citizen of Uganda on duty just like that, how is he going to represent Uganda in Burundi?

All we ask for is that justice should take it's due course and this man should be dealt with,  I do believe that there is no man above the law.

After all, the video was showing a clear evidence of what took place and no more evidence needed.  In Uganda, some people are more equal than others, Period. I rest my case.
