Our data  and privacy will now be at stake.  This can be seen clearly in the scandal between Facebook and Cambridge analytica which according to reports used data of Facebook users to help in influencing the US elections.

Most of the apps that have been developed on the open source frameworks are capable of picking up the locations of their users and sharing them online. Today i will provide you with a guide that will help you to prevent these apps from sharing your location data online.

1. You should ensure that you always  turn off the location services when you are not using them.

If you are able to turn off your smart phone location service, you will be able to have control over your location data.

Many apps like the ride-hailing services and Google maps will need the location service to be turned on before you can be able to use them.

You can be able to avoid your location from being shared online by ensuring that you only turn the location service on when you are using these services and when you are done with using them, you should be able to turn them off.

2. You should be able to revoke or manage application rights properly

The Updated versions of these apps are able to show off some popups when they want to use your location data in some way or the other.

You should be able to revoke and properly manage such popups so that these apps will not be able to pick up your locations from the background.

If you are using Android operating system, here are the steps that you can use to help you revoke the unknown location rights by app on your phone.

1. You should open your phone settings and then go to security.

2. You should then be able to open or turn on app permissions so that you can be able to manage the individual app permissions.

If you are using  IOS on your phone, here are the steps that you should be able to follow:-

1. You should go to settings and then you should be able to select privacy.

2. You should choose the location that you want to manage or you can revoke the list of the apps that are using the function.

3. Ensure that you download a troubleshooter that can be able to identify sharing apps

There are very many trouble shooters that are found in Google playstore and Appstore and therefore you can be able to download some of these trouble shooters.

They will help you to identify the apps that are sharing your location data. Your location data should be protected before it can be picked up by a stranger for his own use.
