BIOGRAPHY: INSPIRING STORY OF OMOTOLA JALADE


Omotola Jalade Ekeinde who is popularly known as Omotola Jalade is a Nigerian actress, model, singer and philanthropist who is one of the movie actresses in Nigeria’s Nollywood movie industry.

 Omotola Jalade was born in Lagos state on the 7th of February 1978 and she is descendant of the Ondo. Omotola Jalade was born in a family of five people that was made up of her parents and her two brothers. One of her brothers is called Tayo and the other is called Bolaji Omotola.

 Her mother is called Oluwatoyin Jalade and she was working at J.T Chanrai Nig. Her father who was called Oluwashola Jalade was working with YoungMen Christian Association which is commonly known as YMCA and also the Lagos Country Club.

 Omotola Jalade obtained her primary school education Chrisland School Opebi between 1981 up to 1987. After that Omotola Jalade joined Oxford Children School where she was able to complete her primary school education.

 After completing her primary school education, Omotola Jalade joined Santos Layout for her lower secondary education. In 1988, Omotola Jalade joined Command Secondary School where she was able to complete her secondary school education.

  After completing her secondary school education, Omotola Jalade joined Obafemi Awolowo University for a short period of time before she decided to move to the Yaba College of Technology in 1996.  

While at Yaba College, Omotola Jalade studied estate management. Omotola Jalade kicked off her acting career in 1995.

 It was at that time when she accompanied her friend to the auditions when the movie director Reginald Ebere spotted her and told her to try her luck at acting by giving her a role to play in the movie called Mortal inheritance.

 In the movie Omotola Jalade was to play the lead role as a sickle-cell patient who is busy fighting for her life despite the odds that are against her.

 The character that Omotola Jalade played overcame the disease and also had a baby. The movie has been regarded as one of the best movies that has ever been made in Nollywood.

From that time, Omotola Jalade became a household name in the Nigerian movie industry and she was able to land very many roles in other movies that followed after. 

She appeared several other blockbuster movies and some of these movies are Games Women Play, Blood Sisters, All My Life, The Woman in Me, and many other movies.

After her excellent performance in the movie called Mortal inheritance, Omotola Jalade won the award for Best actress in an English speaking movie  and she was also able to win the award for Best actress overall for  The Movie Awards that were popularly called THEMA.

 She became the youngest actress to make that achievement at that time. In 1990s and also early 2000s, Omotola Jalade starred several movies that made her win several nominations and awards from the award organisers.

Some of the movies that she did appear in are Lost Kingdom, Kosorogun, and Blood Sisters. In 2004, Omotola Jalade won the Grand achiever award. By now, Omotola Jalade had become a very big household name in Nollywood.

 In 2005, Omotola Jalade received the award for Best Actress in the Supporting Role during the African Movie Academy Awards that were held in Nigeria.

 In 2010, Omotola Jalade acted in a movie called Ije which was shot in California in a place called Jos and Los Angeles.  This became the highest grossing Nollywood movie at that time.

 In 2015, Omotola Jalade starred in another movie called Last Flight to Abuja which became a very big hit.

This movie became the second highest grossing movie in the Cinemas around West Africa beating other Hollywood movies like The Avengers,   Ice Age, and Spiderman, Think like a Man and Madagascar.

As a result of her success in the movie industry, Omotola Jalade has gone on to win several awards locally and also internationally.

She is considered as one of Africa’s biggest box office actresses. In 2015, Omotola Jalade organised celebrations for her movie career spanning 20 years.  In 1996, Omotola Jalade got married to her husband called Mathew Ekiende who is a pilot by training and therefore is called a Captain.

 The couple organised a wedding ceremony while on board a flight that was flying from Lagos to Benin back in 2001.

 The family and close friends were present while the ceremony was taking place. In 1997 in the month of March, Omotola Jalade gave birth to her first child who is a girl. The couple together have four children. 

They are Michael, Meraiah, M.J, Princess. In 1991, Omotola Jalade lost her father. Some of the movies that Omotola Jalade has starred in are as follows:-

Venom of Justice,  Mortal Inheritance, Scores to Settle, Lost kingdom, When Love Dies, Under Fire, The Outsider, Rescue,  Brave Heart, The Revelation, Sand in My Shoes,  Ties that Bind, Last Flight to Abuja,  Blood on the Lagoon,  Hit the Floor, Amina and very many other movies out there.

 Omotola Jalade is one of the best actresses in Nollywood who is an inspiration to all Nigerian youths and also youths across Africa especially the girls who would like to join the entertainment and movie industry.

She continues to inspire, empower and entertain her audiences through her movies.
