John Okafor who is popularly known as Mr. Ibu is a Nigerian actor and comedian. He is one of the most talented actors who is good at comical acting and portraying comical characters.
John Okafor was born in a place called Nkanu West which is found in Nigeria on the 17th of October 1961.
John Okafor was born in a very poor family and therefore he did not have very good childhood.
According to John Okafor, their family was the poorest in their village which is found in Enugu State. Due to his poor family background, John Okafor did so many odd jobs in order to raise money to support his siblings and other family members.
He said that he used to sell firewood in order to raise money. He also worked as a hair dresser and also one time worked at the butcher where he sold meat to in order to make ends meet and also earn a living that could support his family.
Mr. Ibu said that before he became very popular in Nollywood, he had to move some long distances to the places where the auditions for actors and actresses were taking place.
He said that he had to move from Ajao Estate to Festa Lagos State for auditions and the rehearsals that did take place each and every day. In 2004, John Okafor appeared in his first movie called Mr. Ibu from which his nickname Mr. Ibu comes from.
In this movie, John Okafor played as the father of a troublesome kid. Since then, John Okafor has appeared in very many movies and the number of movies that he has played a role are more than 200 in number.
John Okafor got married to Stella Marris Okafor and they have three children together. The couple has daughter who is called Chelsea Okafor.
They also have two sons who are Emmanuel Mandela Okafor and Jay Jay Okafor. In 2011 in the month of January, John Okafor’s son who is called Emmanuel Mandela Okafor died while he was aged two years old.
According to Mr. Ibu during an interview with Entertainment express, his ex-wife one time planned the kidnap of his new wife who is called Stella Marris and her new baby who later died after being poisoned.
He said that he had to pay the ransom before the kidnappers and his ex-wife could be able to release them. He said that his wife and baby appeared 12 hours after he had paid the ransom that they had demanded from him.
John Okafor revealed that he one time wanted to commit suicide during the time when he was still struggling to make a name in the Nigerian movie industry.
He said that at that time he had gone on without a meal for three days and he did not have any hope of even having a meal for the next few weeks and he planned to drown himself up in the well.
Before he could jump into the well, the image of his mother flashed into his mind and there was a song that was done by Michael Bolton that is called when I got my feet back again playing in the neighbourhood and this experience forced him to stop what he was about to do.
He decided to stay alive. After this incident, Mr. Ibu said that he met his old friend who had travelled to London came back to Nigeria and he is called Frank.
He took him on and they lived in his flat and he took him out and decided to buy for him clothes and it was from there that his star began to shine.
Mr. Ibu was also Big Brother Naija housemates and he revealed to them that he loved what they were doing and that he has been watching the game and it looked very interesting and fun.
He gave them a very good advice telling them that after leaving the Big Brother Naija house, they had to ensure that they remain relevant and in the limelight.
John Okafor told them that they could do this by engaging themselves in music and also trying their hands in acting. The housemates who saw Mr. Ibu were excited to see him and they even managed to take some selfies with him before he left the house.
John Okafor is one of the richest and also the most influential actors in Nollywood and he is said to be having a net worth of around $4.2 million.
