BIOGRAPHY: INSPIRING STORY OF AVRIL, KENYAN MUSIC ARTIST


Judith Nyambura Mwangi who is popularly known as Avril is a Kenyan music artist, singer, songwriter and actress who was one time signed to a Kenyan based record label called the Ogopa Deejays which is one of the top record labels in East Africa.

Avril was born on the 30th of April in 1986 in a place called Nakuru which is found in the Rift valley province of Kenya and it was the capital city of Nakuru.

 During her high school days, Judith Nyambura was very active and she participated in the music and also drama festivals. After completing her high school education, Nyambura left her home town Nakuru and relocated to Nairobi which is the capital city of Kenya so that she could be able to join University.

 In 2005, Nyambura Mwangi took part in a music competition that was called Jaza lorry Initiative and it was during that competition that she was able to meet the talent manager of the Ogopa Deejays Production who is called Emmanuel Banda.

 It was during this time that Emmanuel Banda tried to convince her to join the music industry and start doing music but Avril did not give it a thought and she adamantly refused to start doing music and instead she decided to join university so that she could be able to pursue her undergraduate degree.

 In 2006, Judith Nyambura joined the University of Nairobi where she was studying Fashion and design. While she was in her second year at the University of Nairobi, Avril decided to change her mind about music and decided to start singing.

 During this time she went to the studio and was able to record her first song which is called Mama and this was after she had signed a recording contract with the Ogopa Deejays.

 This song which she recorded as her first single was released in the year 2009 and it was sent to very many radio and television stations all over Kenya and it was massively received by the music lovers.

After her new music single Avril featured in Colonel Mustapha’s song and the video of the song was then uploaded on YouTube in the month of October in 2009.

In 2010, Avril worked on a song with one of the top music artists in East Africa called A.Y and the song that they collaborated on is called Leo that was released as a remix.

 This song with A.Y brought her to the limelight and the music lovers received her in the music industry. Avril then collaborated with another Sudanese music artist called Lam on a song that was called Changes and this song was released later in Sudan after it was recorded.

 In 2010, Avril was featured on a song that became the breakthrough hit song for a Kenyan music artist called Marya and the song that they worked on was called Chokoza.

 This song after its release received a lot of airplay from the radio stations and television stations all over the country. In 2012 in the month of January Avril was able to release her song called Kitu Kimoja.
