Housen Mushema is Ugandan actor and model who has featured in various
series like The Hostel Serenity, Balikowa and Second Chance a series that was
airing on NTV.
He came into limelight after he took up the role of Mr. Masa in
the television series called Second Chance.
Housen Mushema was born in Jinja
district in the Central region of Uganda although his grandparents migrated
from the Democratic Republic Congo.
Housena Mushema attended Jinja Islamic
primary school for his early primary school education before completing his
primary school education at Old Kampala primary school in Kampala.
After completing his primary school
education, Housen joined East High School which is found in Ntinda where he
attained his ordinary level of education and also proceeded to Advanced level
of education in the same school.
After completing his secondary school
education, Housen joined Makerere University where he studied Records and
archives management.
During his time at Makerere
University he joined the modelling industry and thus his modelling career began
to take off. He had the passion for modelling and therefore he decided to look
for some modelling gigs around Kampala.
He once went to audition for a modelling gig with Abraynz Fashion show
but he was chased away and instead of giving up on his dream of becoming a
model, he decided to go learn about modelling online.
He would watch some
YouTube videos and learn how models are supposed to behave, what they ate and
how they could keep in shape.
According to Housen Mushema being a model is a
full time job and he also said that if you are a model, you will have to eat,
breath and sleep modelling all the time.
Being a model is not an easy thing to
do and so if you are planning on being a model you should be willing to
sacrifice a lot on your side. After sometime, he started to get some modelling
gigs and would be doing these gigs in the night.
During that time he also got a side job that
he would be doing when modelling gigs were not coming along at the time.
One
time while working at his side job, he came into contact with one movie
director who gave him an offer of appearing in his movie which was based on the
book written by Shakespeare called Macbeth.
He featured very well in the movie
and that was his first time to ever engage in acting. After Macbeth, he then
received a call from a friend who told him about an audition that was taking
place for the Hostel Series in Luzira.
He decided to go and try his luck and
that was how he ended up featuring in the hostel series.
At the audition he
found himself in company of established comedians and actors like Veronica
Tindi who belongs to Fun factory, Richard Tuwagye, Isaac Kuddzu and others.
The
series was a production of Fast Track studios and that was the first time he
featured in a series that was screening on television.
He was then approached
again by Fast Track studios and became a lead character in a series called
Balikoowa about a young handsome man who comes to the city from the
village.
After the shooting of
Balikoowa, he teamed up with Nana Kagga who is a Ugandan movie producer and
director and they started working on a movie called reflections which is yet to
be released to the audience.
During the shooting of Reflections, he got a call
from NTV and during that time he was supplying the set of Second Chance with
the fashion accessories for the series that was being shot.
He thought the call was about these clients
not receiving the accessories but when he reached the venue where he was
required, he was shocked to be asked by the director to step in and take on the
character of Mr. Masa in the series called Second Chance. That is how he ended
up acting in the series second chance.
He has now quit runway modelling after failing to break out
internationally and is now managing models and concentrating more on his acting
skills.
Housen Mushema is an inspiration to all the Ugandan youths out there
who would like to become a model in the near future and also join the world of acting.
He continues to inspire very many youths in Uganda and also out of the country
to become the best that they can at their craft.
