There was a lot of commotion today in Mbale as the verdict for the much
awaited hearing of the presidential age limit was taking place.
According to
Justice Barishaki, the MP’s extension of
their term of office is unconstitutional and it was done without consulting the
people while the passing of the presidential age limit followed all the
required rules and procedures of the house and therefore it is valid and it did
not go against any articles of the constitution or laws.
The decision which was reached after three
hours means that parliament has no powers
to extend the term of office.
He also said that the deployment of the army in
the premises of parliament was not called for.
