IS A UNIVERSITY DEGREE STILL RELEVANT IN UGANDA TODAY?

Iam asking this question so that we can start thinking about our ways of doing things in our society today in the modern world.

SHAMEFUL: Makerere University Students Kill Fellow Student
We have very many youths who are out of University but cannot even get anything meaningful to do after completing their courses and therefore I do think this is a very relevant question that we should face if we are interested in ensuring that the future generation will not face unemployment like our generation is doing today.

In Uganda today even people who do have degrees are walking the streets with empty pockets.

There needs to be a very deliberate effort in helping to fight unemployment and this should actually begin in schools where by the university lecturers should be taught how to teach students to develop critical thinking and also apply the knowledge that they gain in schools outside the classroom.

It is very sad to find out that a computer science student can come out of the university and doesnot know even how to design a website or doesnot even know how to switch on a computer or even trouble shoot some simple computer problems like updating the antivirus or installing an operating system.

That is the kind of students our universities are producing for the employment market and people expect these students to get jobs in big companies who are profit minded, it is just drama.

We should find out a way of instilling skills into our students so that when they go out, they will not just look for jobs but also be able to create the jobs themselves.
