If you are just fresh out of college and you are looking for something to do with your life, taking up a sales job with teach you a lot more than what you ever learned in college about sales marketing or building a business. 

The sad part of college is that most of what we actually to learn is mostly theoretical and it’s applications into the real world may not even be possible.  

Here are some  great tips that will help you as you learn to become better sales man.

Education cannot be compared to performance

One of the great lessons that you can learn if you are just out of college and would love to become a great sales man is that much as at college, your performance will determine your success, in the world of salesmanship, your education is more important and the performance will be based on the number of sales that you can actually generate. 

The number of sales that you can make are unpredictable and even the calls that may lead to sales are also unpredictable but if you are able to learn how to simulate your environment before going into sell a product to a customer, you will likely learn how to go about it in the best way possible.

You should learn how to be old fashioned

If you are going to meet a customer who is not used to using computers, you should be able to go to that meeting with some pieces of paper and pen so that this person is comfortable with you and you will make him or her fit in your comfort zone. 

You could also go for the meeting early, well dressed, well shaven and ready for business to avoid them misjudging you. A smart sales person listens to emotions and not facts.

You should become used to constant judgement

If you are young and fresh out of college, you may be misjudged with your appearance. You will be labelled as young and immature and so they will have a very good look at you even when they actually do not need to.

 If you are going through this situation, you should take precautions  so that you act appropriately during the working hours and also avoid contentious conversations. 

You should also make sure that you avoid work place gossip and controversy.

 You should understand emerging technologies

In this digital age, young professionals are expected to adopt the latest technologies easily and quickly since they were born in the era of technology.

 You will actually realise that you will need to learn how to use the work place technology that you are using and also you should be able to learn it’s expectations that are involved.

 If you are an upcoming sales man, you should learn what other people expect you to know about the latest technologies that are available.
