The internet in Uganda is growing very fast and very many Ugandans are
now getting their news online and this trend is becoming the in thing and it is
different from those old days when most people used to tune to their radio
stations and even buy
newspapers on the streets to help them read news.
Today,
I would like to look at some of the biggest and the most visited news websites
in Uganda.
1. Monitor
This is the biggest news website in Uganda and they have moved from just
selling newspapers to online news.
The monitor publications which runs
monitor.co.ug is a media company whose website is flocked by millions of people
in Uganda every month and according to some of the traffic statistics that I
obtained from easy counter.com,
The monitor website gets around two
hundred thousand page views per day.
The website runs at
monitor.co.ug. Most people are now
moving from hard copy news papers to online news websites.
This newspaper owned
by the Nation Media company is ruling the news niche in Uganda.
2. New vision
This government owned newspaper has now moved from hardcopy to online
news. The newvision.co.ug has been running for some time and they have been
making some good changes to the look and feel of their website.
The online news
website is also getting some good traffic from Ugandans but it’s traffic is
much less than that of monitor.
3. Red pepper
This was Uganda’s first tabloid newspaper to hit the media industry and
now they do have an online news website that they run and they are getting lots
of traffic from their Ugandan audience.
This website has been one of the
biggest news sites in Uganda. The red pepper news website runs at
redpepper.co.ug.
4. Howwe.biz
This is an entertainment news website and it offers some celebrity
gossip alongside some politics and even music downloads and videos for it’s
users and visitors.
According to some of the traffic statistics that were
obtained from easy counter, this website is getting traffic of about 100,000 page
views per day and as a result it is one
of the biggest and most visited websites in Uganda as a whole.
5. Bigeye.ug
This is an entertainment news website which has grown very fast since
2011.
This website offers some celebrity gossip and the latest events and
entertainment news for the music lovers in Uganda.
The website is getting lots
of traffic monthly and according to the traffic statistics obtained from
easycounter.com.
This website is getting
around 14000 page views per day. This is one of the biggest websites in Uganda
and it was one time ranked as the second biggest website in Uganda just behind
the monitor.
6. Chimp
reports
This is another news website in Uganda that gets lots of traffic from
it’s users. The website mostly runs politics and some celebrity gossip.
The
website runs on chimpreports.com.
This website is getting over 20,000 page
views per day. It is one of the most visited news websites in Uganda.
7. Kawowo
sports
This is the biggest sports news website in Uganda and it is mostly specialised
in providing local sports news and also some international sports news
including transfers and other sports information that is relevant.
Kawowo sports gets over 10,000 page views per
day and this ultimately means that it will likely get over 100,000 page views
per month.
8. Techjaja
This is the biggest technology news website that is being run by some
Ugandans.
Techjaja is getting lots of traffic as it brings the latest
technology news and even they review the latest gadgets that have been released
by different technology companies and not only do they focus on international
news, they also do focus on local technology news.
This website is getting some
large amount of traffic therefore this puts it among some of the biggest news
websites in Uganda.
9. PC techmag
This is a technology magazine news website that has been in existence
for a long period of time and it is also one of the biggest news websites in Uganda
in terms of technology news.
The website gets some good amount of traffic and
it runs on pctechmag.com.

Insider.ug
This is another news website that offers political news and some
opinions and analysis on what is happening around the country.
This news
website has also some good followers and users. The website runs on insider.ug.

Ugblizz.com
This is an entertainment news website that has a very good following and
it also gets some large amounts of traffic and they are getting over 10,000
page views per day and counting each and every day.
This website is also one of
the biggest in Uganda and it runs at ugblizz.com.
12.
Independent Magazine
This Magazine which is owned by one Ugandan journalist called Andrew Mwenda
has been running a website called independent.co.ug and this website is getting
lots of traffic as very many Ugandans are searching for some news and
information from the website.
13. The observer
This is one of Uganda’s news papers and it’s website is also getting
lots of traffic each and every day.
This news website which is found in
Kamwokya is also getting some good traffic and viewership as people search for
the latest news and information in Uganda as the latest news breaks on the internet.
14. Nilepost
This online newspaper was recently launched by the Next Media group
which is the parent company of NBS television and just a few months in and the
website is already getting over 30,000 page views and doing extremely well.
This website was launched in January of 2018 and now it is soon becoming one of
the most visited Ugandan websites.
This is simply because it is being powered
by the strong television station called NBS television where they are doing
adverts and promoting the website.
This website will become one of the biggest
websites in Uganda in the near future given the fact that the traffic
statistics of this website are growing very fast and quickly. Trust Next Media,
