BIOGRAPHY OF BETTY AMONGI



Betty Amongi is a Ugandan political scientist who is a member of the Uganda People’s Congress and Member of Parliament who is currently the Minister of Lands and urban planning after being appointed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Betty Amongi was born on 15th November 1975 in Oyam district which is found in the Lango sub-region in the Northern part of Uganda. 

She studied in Makerere University where she was pursuing a Bachelors of Arts degree in political science and public administration. 

In 2009 she obtained her Masters of Arts degree in international relations and Diplomatic studies. 

Betty Amongi was elected in the Ugandan parliament for the first time in 2001 and since that time she has been re-elected into parliament up to today in 2016. 

Betty Amongi was surprisingly appointed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the Minister of Lands and Urban development although she is an opposition member of parliament who belongs to Uganda people’s Congress party.

 Betty Amongi got married to Jimmy Akena in 2013 and their wedding ceremony took place Minakulu sub-county which is found in Oyam district. Jimmy Akena is the son to the former Ugandan president Dr. Apollo Milton Obote. 

The function was attended by around 32 members of parliament who were headed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is a friend to the couple. Betty Amongi is an inspiration to all the Ugandan women out there who are struggling to become very successful and achieve their dreams.
