BIOGRAPHY OF STELLA NYANZI



Stella Nyanzi is a Ugandan political activist, lecturer and a social scientist who famously called President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni a pair of buttocks. The popular political activist is also known for rallying around funds to help buy sanitary pads to girls in rural areas around the country.

Stella Nyanzi who is a former Research fellow at Makerere University studied Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass communication and Literature at Makerere University.

 Stella Nyanzi studied with the popular journalist Andrew Mwenda in the same class at the University. After completing her degree, she joined the University College of London where she pursued her Masters in science degree in Medical Anthropology.

In 2003 she joined the London school of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where she did a phd in  Social anthropologist, sexualities Youth and health policies. She carried out her research in Gambia about the sexualities of the youth. 

She worked in various places and among these are Social Research Associate in the UK at the Medical research centre programme in Uganda from the year 1997 to September 2002. After completing her Phd, she joined Makerere university as  a researcher at the law, gender and sexuality research center. 

When she joined the University, she was asked to lecture the university students which she declined and her office was closed and she decided to undress in protest. 

She among other comments on her Facebook page called Mrs. Janet Museveni a pair of buttocks and other obscene comments that she posted on her facebook page. She was arrested by the state for the computer misuse act, cyber harassment and later released on bail. 

In April 2016, Stella Nyanzi was taken up by a group of doctors who wanted to examine her mental state at Butabika hospital to find out whether she was insane as it was alleged by some government officials. 

Dr. Stella Nyanzi was then released on bail with a cash amount of about 10 million Ugandan shillings.
