THE INSPIRING STORY OF JOSE CHAMELEON


Joseph Mayanja commonly known as Jose chameleon is a Ugandan music artist, singer. Jose chameleon started singing in the late 90s.

He had his education at primary and secondary school level and after that he decided to concentrate on music.

 In those early years of his music career, Chameleon with the likes of Bebecool used to take a bus up to Nairobi in Kenya where they would go to record songs with the Ogopa Djs who were the popular music group from Kenya. 

Jose chameleon once confessed having used his tuition to transport himself to Nairobi and record his first set of songs. His song Mama Mia brought him into the music scene in both Uganda and the East African countries.

During the early 90s and the early 2000s, the Congolese music ruled East Africa. Jose chameleon, Bebecool and the likes of Bobiwine saw an opportunity to venture into music. 

During those days, music was not paying the bills for these stars but the passion they had for music pushed them to continue recording songs. Due to their persistence and consistency, they were accepted by the Ugandans and the East African audience at large.

 Jose chameleon has recorded songs like Mama Mia, Dorotia, and more other hits. Jose chameleon has been nominated in so many wards and these included Kora awards, Mama Awards, locally Hipipo awards, Pam awards and many others.

 He later formed a music crew that was called Leon Island from where he recruited young talents with whom they worked together. 

Among these artists are Radio and Weasel, who have since moved on and formed the Good life crew from where they have been producing hit after hit.

 In 2006, Jose chameleon recorded a song called Bomboclat that he is said to have stolen from professor jay’s album. The beats of the song sounded similar to the version of professor jay from Tanzania. 

Professor Jay threatened to sue Jose chameleon for copyright infringement but they sorted out their issues amicably. 

In 2007, Jose chameleon got married to a woman called Dorothy from the UK.  This relationship did not last after Dorothy was arrested for drug trafficking and sent to jail.  Jose chameleon and Dorothy had a son.

 Jose chameleon later found new love in a Ugandan girl with whom they are still married. There were once rumours that this woman briefly left chameleon after he was rumoured to have converted to Islam. 

This led to the close family members of Jose chameleon organising a meeting to talk to the music star so that sanity can reign in their home. 

Jose Chameleon continues to inspire youths in Uganda to join the music industry. He is a true legend of the Ugandan music industry.
