WHO IS LINDAIKEJI?
Linda Ikeji
is a Nigerian blogger, entrepreneur and former model who started blogging in
2006 and has built one of the biggest blogs in Nigeria.
Linda Ikeji was born in
Imostate which is one of the states in Nigeria.
She has seven siblings and is the second born of the family.
When Linda
Ikeji completed her secondary school education, she wanted to pursue Journalism
course in the University but sad as it can be sometimes, she was offered
English. She took the chance and decided
to study English at the University of Lagos.
While at University, she took on
odd jobs that she did in order to earn some extra pocket money to take care of
herself and also her family members. She used to sell beer at certain
entertainment outlets in Nigeria to make a living.
She also once joined the modelling industry
where she would get deals for modelling for different fashion designers and
also act as ushers at different events.
During that time, modelling and
generally the fashion industry was not paying very well in Nigeria but she did
it just to make ends meet in order to survive.
She then later decided to create her own modelling agency called the
Black dove communications, where she would recruit models that she would pay
whenever they got some gigs to perform at.
She even once ventured into the
magazine business she would publish and it was called FMB magazine.
But due to lack of funds to print many
copies, and the lack of sponsors, she decided to quit the magazine business.
She came into the world of blogging when a friend told her about an article
that was written about her on a blog called BellaNaija.com which is one of the
biggest blogs in Nigeria being run by a powerful female entrepreneur called
UchePedro.
She decided to visit the
website and discovered that she loved what was written and suddenly she
realised that she could still live her dream of being journalist by simply
posting news articles onto her own blog.
In a few days, Linda Ikeji decided to
launch her own blog on the blogger platform that is owned by Google.
She decided to use the free blogging platform
to build her blog. She started by writing about herself especially her love
life, sex life and anything that seemed interesting to her. She then one day
decided to start reporting news on her blog.
She writes about different
celebrities, their lifestyle, fashion and also politics.
Her blog has become
very popular in that she gets over a million page views per day. Initially, she was putting up adverts on her
blog for free by asking her visitors to bring their ads to her website.
But
then, people started asking her for her advertising rates and she decided to
commercialise the blog.
Her website has become one of the most visited websites
in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
She has now got a domain name called
lindaIkejisblog.com and has shifted her blog to Wordpress blogging platform.
She has now decided to expand her online business by launching a social network
called LindaIkejiSocial.com commonly known as LIS which is actually competing directly
with Facebook, which she says is a combination of blogging and social
networking. She also launched an online television station called LindaIkeji
TV.
She is a very inspirational person
who has inspired many Nigerians to venture into the world of blogging. It is a truly a rags to riches story.
This is
one rich and popular blogger that many Ugandan youths can learn from. You can
create your own great future even if the jobs are scarce.
