BIOGRAPHY AND INSPIRING LIFE OF WAHU?

WHO IS WAHU?

Rose Mary Kagwi Wahu is a Kenyan female music artist, songwriter, singer, former fashion model and entrepreneur who is commonly known as Wahu. 

She studied Mathematics at the University of Nairobi and after completing her degree, she decided to pursue music as a career. 

Wahu was born in 1980 and it is during her high school studies that she first ventured into the music business. 

She attended Precious blood Riruta School and this was the time when she picked keen interest into music.

 During her high school, she and a close friend wrote her first song that was called “Showers of Blessings” as they celebrated their Kenya Certificate of Secondary School Education (KCSE) performance this song was very good and popular that the school adopted it as the school anthem.  

That is how talented this gifted singer called Wahu was before she started recording commercial music. She studied Mathematics at the University of Nairobi and after completing her degree, she decided to pursue music as a career.  

During her studies at the University, she ventured into the world of fashion and modelling since she was very beautiful.  

She used to get modelling gigs that would help her to pay her tuition fees and have some money for upkeep at the university. 

While at the university, her love for the music industry and the arts generally helped her to make friends with media personalities and music artists who encouraged her to start a music career. 

After completing her studies at the University, there was pressure to join the corporate world but Wahu had a burning desire to join the music business since she was very passionate about it though at the time it did not pay well at the time. 

She  has been one of Kenya’s most celebrated singers with popular songs like  Niangalie, Esha, Sitishiki and liar all of these took her career to a higher level. 

As a result of her musical success, she has won a variety of awards among which are winning the MTV Africa Music Awards for the year 2008- Best Female Artist( Kenya), Favourite Female Artist, Kisima awards -2008 (Sweet Love). 

She is married to David Mathege who is also a Kenyan music artist popularly known as Nameless. They met while she was still a student at the University of Nairobi where he had come to perform. 

  After the rumours that took shape for their being close, the couple hosted their friends and family, fans to a wedding that made headlines in Kenya’s newspapers and television stations for weeks.

 She started a blog where she writes about the challenges of motherhood and especially raising her two kids Nyakio and Tumiso. 

Recently, she teamed up with Ugandan female music artist Cinderella Sanyu who is popularly known as Cindy and they released a popular collabo that has won awards and is played on many radio stations and Television stations around East Africa. 

Wahu is an inspiration for all the youths in Kenya and all over Africa who are planning to venture into the music industry, she continues to inspire many people.
