WHO IS REMA NAMAKULA?


Rema Namakula who is popularly known as Rema is a Ugandan female music artist, singer and songwriter.  



Rema Namakula was born in Rubaga Hospital in Kampala, Uganda. She was born on 24 April 1991 to the late Hamida Nabbosa and the late Mukiibi Semakula.

 She is the last born in her family.  During her childhood years, she was residing in Ntinda, a Kampala suburb. Rema Namakula went to Kitante primary school for her elementary school education. 

She later proceeded to St. Balikudembe secondary school for both for Ordinary level education and Advanced level of Education. Later she was admitted to Kyambogo University where she got her university education.

She began her singing career by performing Karaoke in different entertainment pubs around Kampala and this was during her senior six vacation.

 Later, she became a back-up singer to another Ugandan female singer called Halima Namakula, who mentored her.

 She later joined the Gagamel Crew which is owned by Bebecool one of the top Ugandan music artists where she became a backup singer for Bebecool. 

In 2013, Bebecool was watching television when he watched a video where Rema was talking about launching a solo album, which Bebecool didn’t know about. So he fired her from Gagamel and she later decided to go solo. In 2013, Rema Namakula released a popular song called Oliwange that became an instant hit. 

It was written by a song writer called Nince Henry. This officially introduced Rema Namakula to the Ugandan music scene like never before. 

In 2016, Rema Namakula was selected to represent Uganda in the coke studio Africa which was the fourth season. 

Other Ugandan music artists who were selected included Lydia Jasmine, Eddy kenzo and Radio and weasel. Rema Namakula later a began a romantic relationship with Eddy Kenzo, one of the top music artists in Uganda and later they got married and have  a daughter called  Aaamal Musuuza. 

Rema Namakula continues to release big hit songs and inspire more youths in Uganda to join the music industry.
