Patrick Bitature is a Ugandan entrepreneur and
philanthropist. He is the founder of Simba Telecom Limited which is a company
that deals in the sale of mobile phones and it is also the largest distributor
of airtime across the country.
Bitature was born on May 10th in the
year 1960 in Fort Portal which is located in Kabarole district in western
region of Uganda.
He was the first born in a middle class family his father
worked within the East African community.
His father was murdered by the
ruthless soldiers of the then President IdiAmin when he was just 13 years old
and at this point in his life, he started to fend for himself and his family.
He ventured into business and started by trading sugar that he imported from Kenya
and sold in some parts of Uganda where the commodity was scarce and expensive.
Bitature attended Namasagali College for his secondary school education at
ordinary level which is located in Kamuli district. While he was a student at
Namasagali College, he was mentored by Father Grimes who was then a priest at
the college.
He later then went to Nyakasura
School in Fort Portal, Kabarole district for his Advanced level of
education.
He later studied Accountancy at the London school of Accountancy in
the United Kingdom, going on to join the institute of Chartered Secretaries and
Administrators.
In the year 1998, Patrick and his wife started Simba Telecom Limited
which started by selling phones to its customers.
The company later became a franchise
for MTN Uganda, which had just opened in Uganda.
Since then Simba telecom has
grown into the largest seller airtime in the country which gross sales reaching
up to $80 million dollars in the year 2010.
Over the years Bitature has
ventured into other sectors in business hence creating the Simba Group of Companies
having subsidiaries in Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania. He also serves on many
Boards in Uganda and also is an active philanthropist.
He is reported to be one
of the wealthiest people in Uganda. He has
ventured into different sectors like hospitality industry where he has Protea
hotels, media, real estate, travel and more.
He is one of the most respected and inspiring individuals in Uganda that
the youths should look up to and borrow a leaf.
