THE INSPIRING BIOGRAPHY
AND LIFE STORY OF GORDON WAVAMUNO
Gordon Wavamuno is a Ugandan businessman, entrepreneur and a
philanthropist who is the founder of Spear Motors Limited a company which deals
in automotive supplies especially in the brands of Mercedes Benz and other
automakers.
The Company has now diversified into different sectors among these are the Media where it owned WavaBroadcasting Services which was recently sold off to Kwese Company Limited which is a media company based in South Africa, Wava FM, Wava Water the manufacturers of mineral water and even it has joined the agricultural sector where they have farms.
He also started up a company called GM Tumpeco that manufactures plastics like cups, chairs and plates, toothbrushes.
The company has built a brand in the country that has become the blood of people using it. Gordon Wavamuno was born in 1956 in the western region of Uganda in Isingiro district. His parents were cattle keepers.
He completed his primary school and secondary school education and finally decided to take a different path in life. While still young he worked with some Asians who owned a retail shop in their neighbourhood.
He worked as a shop attendant for the Asians who were selling produce to their customers.
During this period he saved some money and started buying agricultural produce from the nearby communities and selling the produce to the Asians.
He made some money off that venture and from there; he bought a car which he later used to venture into the taxi business.
He would transport people from one place to another and from his taxi business; he was able to save enough money to kick start his business called Spear Motors limited.

He started the company as a garage where they repair cars that had
mechanical problems and would sell spare parts of cars to different people
whose cars had broken down until when his breakthrough came.
This was when he
signed a contract to act as a franchise for Mercedes Benz cars in Uganda.
This
contract opened doors for his business for expansion and this was the time when
he bought two limousines which were to be hired out for occasions like weddings
at a certain fee.
This business venture took off and gave birth to his media
business which involved WBS television, WavaFM and others.
He also ventured
into real estate business where he bought a plot of land along Jinja road and
constructed an office block popularly known as Spear House.
He rents out this property to variety of
companies and businesses at a certain fee.
His business empire has grown and he
has inspired many Ugandans to open up their own television stations since he
was the pioneer into the television business in Uganda.
Gordon Wavamuno is a
true inspiration for Ugandans and that’s why he has received honouree degrees
in Makerere University and Nkumba University for his contribution to the
business community in Uganda.
He is married to Morine Wavamuno and they have a
daughter called Gloria Wavamuno who has also followed his father’s steps and
decided to venture into the fashion business.
