WHO IS JOHN PATRICK AMAMA MBABAZI?
John
Patrick Amama Mbabazi who is commonly known by his name Mbabazi is a Ugandan
politician and the founder of the rival NRM faction party called Go
Forward.
John Patrick Amama Mbabazi was
born on 16th January 1949 in western region of Uganda in a place
called Kinkizi. His parents were livestock farmers. Mbabazi studied law at
Makerere University and therefore is a lawyer by profession.
Amama Mbabazi was
once a Prime minister of the Republic of Uganda and was also the founder of the
National Resistance Movement which is currently the ruling party of the Ugandan
government.
The National Resistance Movement is the political wing of the
National Resistance Army which captured power in the year 1986.
He served as
the secretary General of the NRM from 2005 when the NRM delegates elected him
with a 70% majority. His second and final term which began in 2011 was
completed in 2016.
He has served in the NRM government in different capacities
beginning as the Director General since the year 1986- 1992.
He held three
major ministerial posts and among these are Minister for Security, Minister of
Defence and finally the position of the Attorney General.
He was the Member of
Parliament for Kinkizi West, a position that he occupied since the year 1996
till 2016 when he decided to contest for the 016 Presidential elections against
Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Amama Mbabazi was among the people who drafted the
current 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda.
