THE INSPIRING STORY OF SHEEBAH KARUNGI

Sheba Karungi commonly known by her stage name as Sheba is a Ugandan female music artist, singer, and vocalist. Sheba Karungi was born in the early 1990s and grew up in Kawempe which is a Kampala suburb.

Sheba karungi started singing while still in school. She dropped out of school because her parents couldn’t afford taking her through school and decided to concentrate her efforts on music.

 During the early 2000s Sheba Karungi joined a girl music group called the Obsessions that was being managed by Ronnie Mayanja.

They started by performing Karaoke in different clubs and bars as a group.

The group started recording its own songs that became instant hits all over the country and before they knew it, they were holding concerts all over the country.

But as a group, Sheba karungi and all the girls in the group couldn’t find out how talented they were. 

In simple terms they could not reach their potential that was when the group was disbanded and each individual went her own separate ways.

  In 2009, Sheba decided to venture into music as a solo artist moving around bars and clubs performing karaoke for their audience and miming the songs of popular music artists at the time.

She says she had the passion for music at the time but lacked the connections and one day she went to Budzz bar and restaurant that is located in Ntinda and talked to the Manager asking him to grant her a chance to perform karaoke every night so that she could attract revellers to his bar.

 Her request was granted and Sheba karungi decided to recruit a few dancers with whom she would perform at the bar.

The trick worked and people started flocking to the bar every night they performed and the manager started paying her some money. 

She would jump on Boda Boda and ride towards the bar every night to perform with her queen dancers.

 At this stage, Sheba karungi was beginning to get some attention from those who flock the bar but Ugandans did not know who this beautiful woman was.

Then she started searching for connections so that she could take her music career to the next level, she decided to zero on Jeff Kiwa, the manager of Team No sleep (TNS). She started stalking this man wherever he was going, in the clubs, bars and wherever he was.

This man decided to give her a listening ear and gave her a chance to record her first hit song called Ice cream. 

This song became a hit all over the country and officially introduced Sheba Karungi to Ugandans as one of the top female music artists in Uganda.

This hit song was followed by other hit songs like Twesana, Nkwatako, and others that have conquered the Ugandan music industry.

Due to her success in the music industry, she has been nominated for awards both locally in Uganda and abroad.

She was nominated for the Mama awards that were held in Nigerian capital of Lagos which according to her is a very big milestone as she did not expect to reach that level of success.

Sheba Karungi has also got an opportunity to do collabos with a variety of music artists among these are Solidstar from Nigeria with whom they did the Nkwatako remix.

 Locally, she has managed to do collaborations with music artists like Ykee Benda, Aziz Azion and more. Sheba Karungi. Sheba Karungi continues to inspire and entertain Ugandans.
