Cindarella Sanyu commonly known by her stage name as Cindy is
a Ugandan female music artist, singer and vocalist.
She was born in Jinja and she is a Musoga by
tribe. She had her early education up to secondary level but couldn’t continue
with school.
She started her music career in the early 2000s.
In the year 2003 Cindy participated with a
number of other musical hopefuls in a singing competition called the Cocacola
Popstars that was organised by the Cocacola Company that was introduced to
search for musical talent in the country.
At the end of the competition, Cindy along with two other girls were
announced as the winners of the competition.
This opened doors for Cindy’s
singing career and it was a great platform that gave her the chance to show off
her talent at singing.
The other girls were Jackie Chandiru and Lillian
Mbabazi. The trio together formed a singing group which was called Blue3.
This
was Uganda’s first singing group and most importantly the first female singing
group, to take over the music industry. Together these three women took over
the music industry in Uganda releasing hit songs like hitaji, where you are and
many others.
With a good management under Steve Jean, Blue3 conquered the music
industry in Uganda, East and all over Africa.
They continued to release hit
songs after hit song. In 2007, the group separated and each member of the group
decided to try a solo career.
That was the year when Cindy launched her solo
music career, releasing songs like Ayokyaayokya which instantly became a hit
song and Cindy became a darling of the radio and Television stations that were
playing her songs like she was the only music artist in Uganda.
In the year 2008 she got married to Mario her
boyfriend who later became her husband and they had a son but that marriage did
not last and it ended.
Because of the pressures in her private life, she took
some time off the music and later emerged recently by doing collaboration with
Kenyan female music artist Wahu called me no like you which instantly became a
hit and brought her back to the Ugandan music scene.
The song was nominated for
the Mama awards where it won an award in its category. Cindy continues to
inspire many young girls to join the music industry.
