LIFE STORY OF BOBIWINE THE GHETTO PRESIDENT

THE INSPIRING STORY OF BOBIWINE- THE SELF PROCLAIMED GHETTO PRESIDENT

Self proclaimed Ghetto president whose real name is Kyagulanyi and commonly known as Bobiwine was born in a family of 45 children.

Bobiwine attended many primary schools among these were Kitante primary school this was as a result of his parents not being able to afford fees for these schools.

He says there was a time when he had to be transferred to a school in Mpigi district which is out of the city.

Having grown up in the ghetto, Bobiwine understands the day to day struggles in these ghettos.

He performed odd jobs while still a kid among these were brick laying, catching grasshoppers which is a delicacy in Uganda commonly known as Nsenene.

He is one of the top music artists in Uganda and leads a music crew called the Fire base crew that is based in Kamwokya a Kampala suburb.

Bobiwine started doing music in the late 90s after teaming up with Bebecool while studying at Kitante High school where he had his secondary school education.

After his secondary school education he proceeded to Makerere University where he studied Social sciences for a few semesters before quitting and joining Music Dance and Drama class from where he obtained his Bachelors degree.

Recently, he has also returned to school to study law in The University of East Africa. Bobiwine became popular at the dawn of the millennium with his hit song akagoma that introduced him to the Ugandan audience.

At that time Ugandans listened to mostly Congolese music that was coming from this neighbouring country.

So when the likes of Bobiwine came into the scene it was away of pushing away the Congolese music and introducing a new music sound into the country.

The Firebase crew that he formed consisted of the likes of Buchaman, who was his right hand man and had the post of Vice president in the cabinet of the Firebase crew.

Buchaman later quit the Firebase crew and tried a solo career releasing a few songs though things did not work out as he thought and later moved to northern Uganda.

He is married to Barbie Itugo and they have three kids. Recently the Ghetto president joined main stream politics where he is contesting for the post of the Member of Parliament to represent people of Kyadondo.

He has so many songs among these are ‘Dipo Nazigala’, Kiwani, recently ‘Aida’ and others.

When popular music artists were drumming support for the ruling party in Uganda, a saga that was commonly called Tubonganawe, Bobiwine distanced himself from these people and tried to portray himself as neutral though he was drumming up support for the opposition leader FDC president Dr. col. Kizza Besigye.

From his humble beginnings, Bobiwine has now ventured into business and has set up a beach at a Place called Busabala on Entebbe road.

He also owns other buildings within Kampala and outside of the city. He continues to rule Uganda’s airwaves and Television screens.

He is a true inspiration to today’s music artists who are springing up in Uganda.
