BIOGRAPHY OF ERIAS LUKWAGO


Erias Lukwago is a Ugandan politician and lawyer who is currently the lord mayor of Kampala city council. Lukwago is a strong member of the Democratic Party.

 Lukwago was born on 11th May 1970 in a village called Kabungo in Masaka district which is currently called Kalungu district. 

His father is called Muhammoud Mirundi and Salimanti Nakayaga.

 Lukwago said that he has more than twenty siblings. After completing his primary and secondary school education, Erias Lukwago joined Makerere University where he obtained a Bachelors degree in Law. 

After completing his Bachelors degree, in 1998, he went on to do a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre. Erias Lukwago also obtained a certificate Advocacy skills from the International Law Institute. 

Lukwago has a law firm that specialises in constitutional law and human rights law found in Kampala and this law firm is called Lukwago and Company Advocates. He has been the managing partner of the law firm. 

In 2005, Erias Lukwago joined active politics and he was elected into the Ugandan parliament to represent Kampala Central Constituency. 

When he joined Parliament, he worked as the Legal and parliamentary affairs committee member and he also worked on the Local Government Accounts Committee. 

In 2011, he resigned from parliament and was then elected as the Lord Mayor of Kampala City. 

Erias Lukwago has been serving as the national legal adviser to the Democratic Party found in Uganda and he has also been the shadow minister for Justice and constitutional affairs. 

On 20th May 2011, after winning the elections, Erias Lukwago was sworn in as the Lord Mayor of Kampala city for a term that would last for five years.

 On 25th November 2013, Erias Lukwago was voted out of office by a group of Kampala city councillors who said that he was incompetent and that he had abused the office of the lord mayor. 

The Kampala Capital City Councillors voted out rightly to impeach Erias Lukwago and he was removed from the post.

 In 2013, he was re-instated as the Lord Mayor after the High court Judge Yasin Nyanzi decided to order the Minister of Kampala Frank Tumwebaze to stop the report of the tribunal from being implemented and this paved way for censuring of Lukwago.


Erias Lukwago is married to a woman called Zawedde Lukwago and they both have six children. Erias Lukwago is a proud member of the Nkima Clan of Buganda.
