HOW THREADS COULD KILL TWITTER

 By Matata Mercy

Recently as a group of friends, we were discussing the tremendous progress in technology.

We talked about OPenAI which released CHATGPT and another friend of mine pointed out the release of Threads by Meta the parent company of Facebook and Instagram.

Apparently, the team behind Threads app was the one working at Instagram.

The story of Threads began when Elon musk decided to acquire Twitter for $44billion dollars.

This abrupt takeover by the founder of SpaceX brought with it some undesirable changes at social media company.

For example the removal of character limits and also tampering with the blue ticks.

This happened as the new owner took hold of the company.

The work on the Threads app started in January 2023 this was after the team at Instagram had internal meetings where they discussed their plans to release a product called Instagram notes which was going to be a text based app within the photo sharing app.

But later, the team decided to make the app separate and independent.

And this gave birth to Threads which is actually a clone of Twitter.

The app was released on 6th July 2023.

Within 24 hours after it's release the app had 80 million users already signed up.

Users can signup for Threads using their Instagram handles.

Users of the app are able to repost, comment and also like the comments while Twitter cannot do that.

The users of the app continue to grow and this is what many social media enthusiasts are calling the Twitter killer app.

As some Twitter users are now looking for other microblogging sites Threads could be a better alternative.

Now while Elon Musk is busy making plans to physically fight Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

In my own opinion, Musk has already been punched by Zuckerberg through the launch of Threads app.

We wait to see if Threads will completely bury Twitter in the sand. Good luck.
