Billie Zangewa is a Malawian artist who is well known for her works that involve silk fabrics. Billy Zangewa was born in the city of Blantyre which is found in Malawi in the year 1973.
Billie Zangewa obtained a degree in Fine Arts from Rhodes University which is found in South Africa.
Billy Zangewa's mother used to work at a textile industry where she engaged herself in sewing and embroidery.
While she was doing her artistic training, she was able to test several other modes of expression but later on she became very passionate about working with silk this was simply because of her strong interest in the fabrics, the luminosity and also the effects of reflection that it had on it.
According to her silk does have a very good and fabulous quality of reflection and also it looks modern and at the forefront of fashion.
Billie Zangewa has been able to work in several places including Gaborone which is found in Botswana, Johannesburg in South Africa and also in London in the United Kingdom.
She has been able to produce hand bags, collages, on the surfaces of the fabric, she has produced images, text, this also includes embroidery, beads and mats.
In the year 2020, she was able to present her work during an exhibition that was organised in Templob found in Paris in France.
She called the exhibition Soldier of Love and it actually explored the themes like feminity, love and also domesticity.
In the year 2014, Zangewa decided to exhibit another work that she called Constant gardener and it was taken up by National Museum of African Art which is found in Washington D.C.
In the year 2018, Zangewa was featured as the artist for the annual Johannesburg Art Fair.
The following year, Zangewa was also included in the show that was tittled Iam contemporary Women Arts of Africa that was held at the National Museum of African art.
Billie Zangewa is an inspiration to all upcoming artists out there especially the youths including girls that it is possible for you to achieve your dreams and become very successful.
