When you are working at home especially can become very hard when you lose your focus and motivation for work.
It becomes extremely difficult to maintain your motivation when you are working alone and you will develop the need not to complete that project that you are working on simply because it is not a pressing issue and the fact that you do not have a boss or a supervisor who can put you on the tenterhooks makes it worse.
In the last few years i have learnt a few tricks and skills that can help me to remain motivated when iam working alone and help me maintain my focus on the work that iam doing.
Here are some tips that will help you to maintain your focus when you are working alone.
1. Take short breaks
If you are going to maintain the focus on the work that you are doing then you will need to include some short breaks into your schedule.
You should take some break after certain period of time and this could be after every 20 minutes. During the break you can decide to walk across the room, jog, or even run around.
You should give your body a break so that it can reset and also your mind will be able reset it's thoughts. You can decide to use an app to help you in developing the discipline to take short breaks.
2. Schedule an afternoon for socialising and also building networks
When you are working alone, you cannot get the chance to engage in social activities or even be able to network with other people out there.
In order to be able to engage in social activities, you should put aside one afternoon atleast that you can use to meet with friends or people who can help you in your career development and personal growth.
Either way you should use this time to socialise with other people out there to build new relationships.
3. Look at your personal schedule as your work schedule
When you are doing a 9 to 5 job, it will need you to get up in the morning and go to work meaning you have to leave your house and commuting to work.
Now if you are working from home, it will be good if you can create that rythm at home. In this case, you might not leave your house but all you need to do is to stick to the schedule that you have designed for yourself.
This will keep you motivated each and every day as you work on the projects that you are passionate about and you will be achieving more since you are using your time well.
