Sometimes we feel like doing certain things that do make meaning to us but there is one thing that does stop us from doing those things, it is called Fear.
How many times have you tried to do something new and that old devil called fear that crawled up into your way and stopped you dead from doing it?
The fear of embarrasment or the fear of not being good enough or sadly the fear of becoming a complete failure has stopped many from pursuing the most important tasks of their life.
These fears can cause us to procrastinate, miss chance of having good relationships with others that could easily lead to marriage or even miss some good business opportunities.
Today, i would like to talk about how you can be able to avoid the power of fear from controlling you and stopping you from doing the things that you would like to do for yourself.
Here are some techniques that you can apply in your life to help you beat fear and overcome it's power in your life.
1. Take it slow
The biggest mistake that we who are engulfed by fear do make is the fact that we do imagine ourselves at the biggest event and this just makes us fall onto our knees without even trying anything at all.
Let's take an example of public speaking.
If you want to become a very good public speaker but you are always afraid of standing infront of a crowd, you should start taking steps towards your journey to becoming a great public speaker slowly.
You could start by just speaking to few friends who could be just three in number. Invite them into a certain place and let them get seated then, you can stand up and start speaking about any topic that you are passionate about.
After you have successfully mastered the art of speaking infront of three people who are basically just your friends, you will gain the courage for the next challenge of public speaking that you have to face.
For the next challenge, you can decide to organise a presentation infront of your classmates who could be about 30 in number.
Get your topic right and stand up and start presenting the material to your classmates, it could look intimidating but you are gaining some good skills of public speaking here one at a time.
If you can nail that properly, you will now be on your way to a podium of crowds and finally master the art of public speaking.
This example applies to all things that you would like to pursue but fear is just keeping you away. Try it out.
2. Expose yourself to the fear within you
There is one way of treating fear that i came across that is called exposure therapy. This involves deliberately exposing yourself to the things that you fear.
You should then be able to identify the effects that the exposure to this kind of fear can have on yourself.
You should feel the physical sensations that this fear will generate on your body.If you continue doing this consistently, your body will get used to those sensations and you nolonger have any fear for that thing which you were afraid of.
This turn out to be part of the meaningful work that you want to do that you actually should not get rid of in the first place.
3. Learn how to get rid of your ego
If you are going to be successful, you will need to throw away your ego or that inner feeling that you have something to lose when you do something.
If you discover that whatever you are trying to do will in the long run make you far much better, you will be in the right position to overcome your fears and achieve your goals.
