There is a
lot of excitement in the Ugandan political circles over what has been termed as
the national dialogue. This dialogue is being organised by an organisation that
is called the Elder’s forum.
Some of the politicians who are doing their
politics in this country called Uganda do still think that the current
president of the republic of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni can still accept
some form of dialogue with them and may be in the end hand over power willingly
to them.
That’s an impossible feat that
I do think can never happen in this era of the NRM government. What the NRM
government is protecting is exactly what the opposition political parties
actually want to get their hands on. It is just like woman who is protecting
herself from being raped by men.
The
woman might be in the process of protecting her virginity from the men, the men
on the other hand want to take away her virginity.
So this cat and mouse chase
between the opposition party members and the ruling National Resistance
Movement party will continue and we don’t see any end to it unless something
very catastrophic happens which we actually pray should not happen to our
lovely country.
The national dialogue will take place but I do believe that the
true solutions to the problems that are facing Ugandans will not be found
during this kind of dialogue.
If we are to find solutions to our Ugandan problems
like corruption, poor service delivery, then we will need to have the full
involvement of the ruling political party called NRM.
These are the people that
are controlling the Ugandan government and if there is to be a very significant
change in the way services are delivered to the people of Uganda, these people
will need to come out of their cocoons and do that and nothing more.
If that does
not happen, we will continue to have hospitals that do not have drugs and poor
road networks all over the country.
There is no where this NRM government is
going in the near future. They say nothing does last forever and Iam very sure
the cracks of the collapse of this government will one day show and Ugandans
who are courageous enough will take charge of their country.
National dialogue as it stands now is nor
actually the ultimate solution for the Ugandan problems. We just need to wait
and the real cracks of this government will show.
For now, the Ugandan
political activists can go around organising a national dialogue but all I know
is that these people are just going there to take some tea and enjoy the
air-conditioned hotels where these things are being held and nothing more.
They
can continue with the national dialogue and it will never yield any fruit in
the near future.
Before we can even talk about the national dialogue, we should
be asking ourselves the question, how did these people come into power?
Well,
they used guns to grab power from the earlier regimes and it is only that with
the help of other countries abroad that will help us bring down this
government.
So in my own opinion, the national dialogue will not help us
Ugandans who love peace to actually achieve the peace.
The good thing is that there is a movement of
youths that re rising and very soon they will throw out the old guards that
have been keeping us in captivity for as long as 30 years and most of us have
seen only one president and that’s it and nothing more.
In the meantime, they
should keep attending those dialogue meetings. One day the cracks will surely
give way.
