Otile Brown is a Kenyan guitarist, songwriter, actor and music artist
who has taken the Kenyan music industry by storm.
Otile Brown was born in Mombasa which is one
of the coastal towns that are found along the coast of the Indian Ocean in the
East African country.
Otile Brown was the last born in his family of five
children. Otile Brown has three sisters and one brother.
Otile Brown realised
that he was talented when he was at the age of 12. Otile Brown revealed during an interview that
his mother died at the tender age of 13 and during that time he used to sell
drugs so that he could survive.
He also said that during that time Police could
sometimes arrest him and he would be forced to frog match out of the school
compound as other pupils just looked on.
Otile Brown started his musical career
at the age of 13 when he began writing and singing songs though during this time
he was not making any money from his music.
During that time he said that he
used to work in Mombasa and so he would save money and then go to Nairobi where
he would record some songs.
He then realised that if he wanted to gain enough
stability in the music industry, he will have to move to Nairobi.
In 2012, Otile Brown decided to move to Nairobi
from Mombasa where he could look for better opportunities to help him pursue
his musical career.
While in Nairobi, he met up with one man called Jalango and
at the time he was waiting for Willy M. Tuva and that was when Otile Brown
decided to give Jalango his CD that contained some of his music. Willy M. Tuva
loved Otile Brown’s music and that was when he advised Otile Brown to take up
music as a career.
Willy M. Tuva even went ahead and sponsored his first song
in terms of shooting the music video.
Jalango even gave him an opportunity to work with one artist either Wyre
or Dr. Eddy.
Since Wyre is a very busy person, Otile Brown decided to work with
Dr. Eddy who is a music producer. During that time he lived with Dr. Eddy in his mansion in Nairobi for about six
months.
Dr. Eddy was very impressed with the skills and talent that Otile Brown
displayed behind the mic and he decided to sign Otile Brown onto his label
which is called Dreamland Music Entertainment.
Therefore Otile Brown was
discovered by Jalango who officially introduced him into the Kenyan music
industry by connecting him to people like Dr. Eddy, Wyre, Khaligraph Jones.
Otile Brown also did a music collaboration with one of Kenya’s top hip-hop
rappers called Khaligraph Jones and the song was called Imaginary Love. This song has introduced Otile Brown
officially to Kenyans who then realised the potential of this man who hails
from the coastal town of Mombasa.
The video of this song was shot in the
coastal town of Mombasa and it was massively received. Otile Brown also said that he is working on
other music collaborations with other top music artists in Kenya.
Otile Brown was rumoured to be dating Kenyan
socialite Vera Sidika and the two were said to be madly in love until when the
relationship came to an end recently after Vera Sidika accused Otile Brown of
asking for money from her.
According to Vera Sidika, Otile Brown was just using
her to get money or fame and that she refuses to be used by men for financial
gains and that it is a shame for men to be asking for money from women.
Some of
the Vera Sidika fans blasted Otile Brown for using the socialite and then after
wards dumping her. Otile Brown revealed that they used to borrow money from
each other and that was not actually the reason why they broke up.
The main
reason why they did break up was because Vera Sidika wanted him to get her
pregnant so that they can get married.
Otile Brown is a very inspirational figure to
all the Kenyan youths out there and especially those that want to join the
entertainment industry.
He continues to inspire many youths in Kenya and all
over Africa with his music.
