Mesach Semakula is a Ugandan singer and songwriter who started his
musical journey back in 1993 while still a secondary school student at the
time.
During that time Umar Katumba was a very big music artist in Uganda and
Mesach Semakula was one of his fans at the time.
While he was still young,
Mesach Semakula dreamt of becoming a football star although he was not very
good at playing football, he also tried out boxing but he was beaten during a
boxing match and so he decided to give up on the dream and fall back onto his
other dream that he wanted to achieve which was becoming a music artist.
One
time an opportunity came and this time Umar Katumba was looking for some
talented young people who could be able to join his band and so Mesach Semakula
decided to try out his luck at the auditions. These auditions took place at
Pride Theatre which is found in Kampala.
According to Mesach Semakula, there
were about 460 people who came for the auditions of all those people only 120
people managed to be screened and he was lucky enough to be among those who
were screened.
After some time, Umar
Katumba also did another screening and this time Mesach Semakula was also
dropped including his friend who is called Geoffrey Lutaya.
After being
dropped, Mesach Semakula and his friend Geoffrey Lutaya decided to start their
own band and they called it but the money that they were getting from the gigs
from the band was not enough to help meet their needs and so they got help from
Mukibi and John Segawa.
