We are in a world that is changing very fast and some of the skills that
we thought were relevant 10 years ago have actually turned out to be of no use
today.
So for all those aspiring employees who are just coming out of the
University, today I offer you some tips on some of the skills that will help
you become very relevant and appreciated by your employees.
1. Computer
skills
In today’s job market, if you are not used to using computers, you will
be left out of the job market intentionally.
You must at least have some skills
like typing skills, you should be able to use a word document or have some
skills in spreadsheets like Microsoft Excel and more.
If you are good at
programming computers and you have mastered some good programming languages
like Php, JavaScript even a simple design package like HTML/CSS , you will be
in the right route to a better future in the job market and you will be offered
good packages to work at some great companies.
2. Communication
skills
You must develop your communication skills if you are to succeed in
today’s job market and even business environment.
Take for example if you are a
sales personell, you must learn how to talk to customers in an appealing way so
that they will be able to buy some of your goods that you want them to buy.
Communication skills are also vital if you are going to work as a team in an
organisation. Most organisations like employing people who can fit in their
teams at work.
3. Time
management
If you are going to start showing up at work very late every day, I bet
your employer will quickly dismiss you from your job.
You need to learn some
good time management skills that will help you do the work that you are
assigned efficiently and effectively. This will also help you to submit in your
assignments on time.
4. Working in
teams
You should also develop the skill of working with other people in teams
so that you will be able to accomplish a lot of things.
In many organisations,
you are required to work in teams and if you are used to working in teams
and know how to appreciate other
people’s efforts and needs, you will be able to fit in those organisation teams
and so you will be easily employed.
These are some of the critical skills that you must have if you are to
work in good organisations. Good luck.
