The number of people who own cars in Kampala city has tremendously
increased and it has gone over the roof.
Almost every day, more and more
Ugandans are buying cars and the sad thing is that the roads in Uganda are not
large enough to accommodate these cars and therefore if you are driving you
will find yourself trapped on the streets of Kampala unable to move quickly
towards your destination.
Today, I will give you some tips on how you can
actually avoid and escape traffic Jam on the streets of Kampala.
1. Wake up
early
Most people in Kampala wait for the peak hours to drive on the streets
when very many cars are already dominating the streets.
The best way to avoid
being caught up in traffic is to wake up early and start driving to work before
the streets are congested and dominated
by the chaos and hustle when very many people are rushing to work.
If you are
expecting to be at work by 8:00 am, then it is recommended that you wake up at
least at 6:00 am so that you are ready and can reach your place of work early
before the rest of the people start their journey on the same roads.
If you can
develop the habit of waking up early every day, you will be able to beat the
traffic mess and reach your destination as early as possible.
2. Use a
safeboda
The Ugandan transportation sector is changing and now you can get a
bodaboda by just using an application downloaded on your phone. This is a very
good and safe way of travelling on the streets of Kampala.
If you a Smartphone,
you will simplify your life by just downloading the safeboda application and
then use it to get riders who will take you to your destination without any
hustle of the traffic jam on the
streets.

security reasons because the riders are known and their names, contacts are
written on their jackets so you will be sure that you will not be hoodwinked by
thieves on the streets.
One thing is
that they offer helmet for their passengers that they are transporting hence
you will be sure that in case of any
accidents, at least you have protected the most important part of your body and
that is your head.
3. You buy a
motorcycle
If you believe it would be better for you to own your transport means,
then it is good that you buy a motorcycle. The advantage of using motorcycles
is that they are not stopped by traffic.
They can pass through a stream of cars
and reach their destination as quickly as possible.
If you truly want to escape
the traffic jam, it will be better for you to learn how to ride and purchase a
motorcycle. You will enjoy your ride to your destination without any inconveniences
of traffic jam.
4. Use a
bicycle
You could purchase a bicycle as a means of your transportation to your
destination. This is also another good way of escaping the traffic jam but also
it has it’s health benefits interms of the exercise of your muscles as you ride
towards your destination.
If you want to look trendy, you can purchase a sports
bicycle with its own helmet and this will help you ride to your destination without any inconveniences.
5. You could install sirens on your car
In Uganda, there are so many people who have installed sirens on their
cars so that it can help them to escape traffic.
When most of the cars on the
highways realise that there is a siren, they give way to the car s coming and
that is how some of the top personalities in this country survive traffic jam.
If you really have run out of ideas and may be you are an honourable member of
parliament, you could just install the
sirens on your car to help you escape the mess of traffic on the Kampala
streets.
6. Use short
cuts
If you are aware of the different routes that connect from one place to
another, you could use these routes to help you to escape traffic.
Instead of
using the main roads that are already crowded with lots of cars, you should
decide to use sort cuts that are not crowded and could easily take you to your
destination easily.
I know with these tips, you will be able to travel safely
around Kampala and even the surrounding
towns. These tips could also help you
beat traffic in other cities like Nairobi and Kigali.
