Many of us suffer from being overwhelmed and stressed at work and
sometimes we ask ourselves whether we can actually be able to avoid being
overwhelmed and stressed on a daily basis.
It is possible to avoid being
overwhelmed and today, I would like to look at some of the practical tips that
will help you and give you some relief and piece of mind from being overwhelmed
at work.
By being overwhelmed I actually mean that you might be having too many
options and it might also mean that you do have very little time or not enough
time to accomplish very many tasks. Some of the things that will cause us to
become overwhelmed are as follows.
If you do not deal with your problems early enough and you just leave
those problems to mount and become bigger, the worst thing that will happen is
that you will be stressed.
If you are always saying yes to very many things
that are suggested to you, you will find that you are overwhelmed and this also
may mean that you are actually trying to impress very many people.
If you are
not giving yourself enough time to relax, then you may also end up overwhelmed.
All these things that cause to become overwhelmed are actually choices and we
are able to make better choices in our lives, we will likely avoid being
overwhelmed.
Here are some of the practical strategies that you will use to
help you avoid being overwhelmed at your work place.
1. Ensure that
you do clear any clutter at your work place or home
Sometimes when we are in environments that are messy or cluttered, we
feel more stressed and this will only help to make the problem of being
overwhelmed worse.
If you can throw away all that clutter, and organise your
office or home, you will be able to free yourself from the stress.
This will
help you to only hold onto material that does matter to you and can actually do
help you.
2. Create sometime
for relaxation
You should always create sometime to help you relax in your busy
schedule so that you can relieve yourself of the stress that you are undergoing
at your place of work.
The warm bath or taking a walk around your
neighbourhood will most likely keep you
very refreshed and relaxed. If you love nature, you can create some time to go
out into the nature and enjoy some of the fresh air from the trees.
3. Ensure
that you do work at the peak time of the day
Some people work best in the morning and if you are someone who loves
working in the morning hours, ensure that you do accomplish some of the most
important tasks of the day in the morning so that you will have enough free
time later in the day.
Finding the time of the day at which you work best will
make you achieve more. Knowing that you have accomplished the most crucial
tasks of the day will give you more energy to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
4. Distract
yourself
When you are feeling overwhelmed, it is good to find a way of
distracting yourself from what you are actually feeling at the moment and you
can do this by just going out to have some fun at a club or listen to some cool
music or even watch a an interesting movie which will help you forget the
problems that are at hand.
This will
keep your brain busy and stop it from sliding into the stress that you are
undergoing.
5. You should
take a break from social media
Social media is very addictive but interesting although some times it
can just make us feel more overwhelmed.
You find that you have to respond to
the different comments, check friend’s status updates and check out the
different groups, it can be so exhausting and if you are able to take a break
from all this, you will more likely feel better.
6.
Multitasking will just worsen the problem
Some people say multitasking is good but to me, I do think it could just
worsen the problem of being overwhelmed.
If you would like to avoid the stress
of being overwhelmed, then it is better to avoid multitasking and the only
solution could be to delegate some of the things that you feel you are not good
at doing to other people simply because if you try to change from one task to
another, your brain will be exhausted.
