WHO IS MUKASA MBIDDE?
Mukasa Mbidde is a Ugandan lawyer, human rights activist, motivational
speaker, entrepreneur and politician who is a member of the Democratic Party
which is commonly known as DP. Mukasa
Mbidde was born on 15th October 1973 in Masaka district to the late
Emmanuel Mbidde who was also a headmaster of a school in the district and also
to Mary Kintu who is now a retired teacher.
He studied at Nakyenyi primary school
for his primary school education and went to Kabwoko high school for his
ordinary level of education before joining Kampala high school for his advanced
level of education.
Mukasa Mbidde is one of the strong opposition members of
parliament who have out rightly opposed the removal of the presidential age limit.
He is famously known for starting the campaign called “Togikwatako” which is a
campaign that was used to alert Ugandans about the repercussions of removing
the presidential age limit. He has been a member of the East African
legislative Assembly representing Uganda in the East African parliament as an
opposition member of parliament.
Mukasa Mbidde studied Mass communication degree
at Makerere University and later went for the bar course in the same University
and aside from practicing politics in Uganda, he also runs his law firm.
He was
married to Susan Nakawuki who passed away recently in a car accident. His former wife was also a member of the
Democratic Party.
During the Togikwatako
campaign, Mukasa Mbidde alongside some of the Democratic party members engaged
in running battles with police on the streets of districts like Kampala, Jinja
and Masaka although in the end the age
limit was removed permitting
President Museveni to contest
again for another term in the office as President of the Republic of Uganda.
Mukasa Mbidde has also ventured into business and owns a radio station. A financial
times newspaper that he ran between 1999 to 2000 and a Forex beaureau to date
among other business ventures. He is an
inspiration to many Ugandan youths out there who are planning to succeed in
life.
