Dorcus
Inzikuru is a Ugandan female athlete and commonwealth gold medallist who rose
to fame after winning gold at the common wealth games that were held in
Helsinki in Europe.
Inzikuru started participating in athletics when she was
still young and when she joined primary school, she began doing athletics for
the primary school that she was in called Ezuku primary school that is located
in Vurra Sub county in Arua district.
During those days, she became one of the best athletes in the school
competitions organised in the district.
She later joined Mvara Secondary School
where she became very active in sports in the school but most importantly she
became very active in the world of athletics in that she was beating all her
counterparts when it came to short races and even long races.
It was during this time at the National
Secondary School championships that she was noticed and identified by her coach
who went on to help her win gold at the commonwealth championships.
After that heroic and victorious fit at the
championships, Dorcus Inzikuru became a household name in the world of
athletics both in Uganda and around the world.
When she won the gold medal, a
stadium in Arua town was then named in her honor and it was to be called
Inzikuru stadium.
The government of
Uganda also decided to construct a house for her in Arua district where she
currently resides.
Dorcus Inzikuru got
married to a man called Bosco Acidri who died recently from heart complications. She has of recent returned back to school to
obtain a degree in Social Sciences.
Dorcus Inzikuru continues to inspire many Ugandan youths and especially
the girls who are hoping to actually join the world of athletics and also
become successful like her.
