BIOGRAPHY AND LIFESTORY OF NOBERT MAO
Nobert Mao
is the current President of the Democratic Party, former chairman of Gulu
municipality and former Member of Parliament for Gulu Municipality.
Nobert Mao
is a strong member of the opposition party called Democratic Party (DP)who was
once the Guild president of Makerere University between the year 1991- 1994.
Nobert Mao was born on 12th march in the year 1967.
His mother is a
Munyankole from western part of Uganda and the father is an Acholi from the
Northern Part of Uganda.
He had his primary education and proceeded to
Nyakasura School for his secondary education.
From there he joined Makerere
University where he pursued a Bachelors degree in law. While at Makerere
University he was the head of the student’s guild council.
After completing his
law degree, he joined the Law Development Centre for a Diploma in Legal
practice for the bar course.
After completing his bar course he joined some law
firms where he worked for some good years before finally joining elective
politics to date.
He contested for the Member of Parliament seat in the Gulu
municipality which he won consecutively and has been representing the people of
Gulu Municipality for over 7 years when he decided to contest for the Gulu
municipality chairman which he won.
Nobert Mao recently contested for the
presidential seat in Uganda in the 2016 elections where he became third in the
elections after President Yoweri Museveni won the elections giving National
Resistance Movement another term in Office.
He recently launched a campaign
called Togikwatako alongside his Democratic Party members like Mukasa Mbidde,
Betty Nambooze which is a campaign to sensitise Ugandans against the changing
of article 102b of the constitution that says that a person above the age of 75
shall not contest for the presidential seat.
The campaign has become popular
and his party has now joined hands with other opposition parties to help defend
the constitution of the Republic of Uganda.
He married to a woman called Naomi
and they have children.
He has now joined NRM and is now Minister for Justice and constitutional affairs.
